Michael “Mike” Allen, age 58, of Lakeville MN, formally of Prior Lake, MN, passed away on March 19, 2022.
A celebration of life will be held at the Legends Golf Club, in Lakeville MN, on Tuesday April 5th. Program at 3pm with reception following. Memorials are preferred to the Michael Allen Fund in Honor of Darlene Allen at the University of Minnesota.
Mike was born January 13, 1964, in Cresco, Iowa to Gary and Darlene Allen. He grew up in Prior Lake and graduated from Prior Lake High School in 1982. Mike received a BS in Physiology from the University of Minnesota, followed by a degree in Nursing. He worked as an ICU nurse for several years but eventually landed in medical device sales, where Mike’s outgoing personality and medical knowledge brought him great success. An avid supporter of science and research, Mike recently established a fund at the University of MN to support cancer research in memory of his mother.
Of all his accomplishments, the title of “uncle” was the one Mike was most proud. His nieces and nephews, Amber Hunter (Nick), Nicholas Machacek (Kim), Taylor Machacek, Cade King, Will King, Marilyn Allen, Lucy Allen, Vincent Allen, and Luke Allen will all miss him deeply. He captured their hearts and minds, making each one feel as if they were one-in-a-million. Forever their “funcle”, “Pinchy Mike”, “Big Mike”, he was their babysitter, rough-houser, mentor, tutor, friend.
Mike’s death has created an unfillable void in the hearts of his family and all who knew him. Mike was a bigger than life personality who always had a joke and a laugh. He was smart, funny, kind, goofy, generous, and quite handsome. Mike cherished his family and friends – many whom he had known since his childhood or Sanford Hall days. Mike’s passions included playing the guitar, biking, scuba diving, collecting boots, reading and spending time with friends and family.
Survived by his siblings, Lynda Allen (Paul Zander), Tina King (Brad), Mark Allen (Martha Vallez), his nieces, nephews and so many friends. Preceded in death by his parents, Gary and Darlene Allen.

Tina and the Allen family, I am so sorry to hear of Mike’s passing. I will always remember Mike coming to the house in Mpls that Roberto, Rita, Pat and I lived in while attending the U of MN. He would look down the hallway to the full length mirror at the end of the hallway, flex, and say to himself: “Mike, how did you get to be so big?” Always had a smile on his face. He will be missed.

Lynda, Tina and Mark I am beyond words right now. Growing up with your family gives me so many happy memories. Mike always was smiling and either had a joke or a funny comment for me. Hopefully your happy memories will help you through this sad time now and in the future.

I was looking for another Obituary when I ran across this, I am shocked. I did not know him well, but the little I did know of him, he was a special guy. Prayers to all of his immediate and extended family.

Dear Allen family,
Although I did not know you, Mike and I have a deep history and friendship from his Dallas days. We have been in contact through the years, most recently 3/17. Just seems surreal that he is gone. I pray for your peace knowing that he is not suffering anymore. I know that his medical issues were a lot to bear. I can only pray that he is now without pain.

Mike held a unique place in my heart, and I know in other people’s. Despite profound adversity he was such a funny, generous, sensitive, smart and beautiful person. He left the world a much better place. I aspire to be more like Mike. That’s why I miss him very much.

I will remember Mike as the funniest guy in the room. Just give him a topic, or say something silly and he was off and making us laugh until our sides hurt. He was an improv master before it was a thing. You are in our thoughts and prayers. Love you all. Tom and Shannon

Sorrow mixed with gladness that I was able to mix it up with Mike at Allen family gatherings. I’m so sorry for the loss of your brother and brother in law, uncle /funcle. I don’t know or recall where Pinchy Mike originated, but I’m hoping that when you think of Mike or feel him at your side, you feel a pinch now and then. Love to Allens. Dee-Dee
