Susanne “Sue” Lynn Gehrke-Marquardt, 66, of Prior Lake, MN, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Sue was born May 12, 1959, in Waterville MN to Alfred and Alice (Thelemann) Gehrke. She graduated from Waterville High School and then attended Mankato State University and received her degree in Social Work. Sue dedicated her life to serving others - in her job as a social worker most recently at Scott County, and also in other philanthropic causes she believed in. Giving back was not just a part of her work - it was who she was as a person.
Sue’s greatest job in life was being a mother, and she cherished spending time with her girls. She never missed a chance to talk about them and share how proud she was of them. She loved them unconditionally and was devoted to their happiness. She was thrilled when she became “Nana Sue” and could share even more love with her beloved Reese and Rhett.
Sue had an undeniable zest for life, and if you were her friend, she made sure you felt seen, heard and loved. Her kindness knew no bounds and she made every gathering brighter. She brought warmth and energy to all she did, whether it was a fiercely competitive game of pickleball, a casual lunch, or nurturing her faith at Shepherd of the Lake Lutheran Church.
Sue had a deep relationship with God, and it was an honor to witness her faith in her final days. She remained courageous and full of light, confident of where she was going and who she would be reunited with. Her grace and strength will forever remain an inspiration to those who knew her.
Sue is survived by her daughters, Jenna (Brian) Gauger and Kasey (Jordan Gates) Marquardt; her grandchildren, Reese and Rhett Gauger; her siblings, Gerald (Ruthann) Gehrke, Joanne (John) Cross, and Eugene (Audrey) Gehrke. She is preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Alice (Thelemann) Gehrke; and sister Janet Gehrke.
Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life at Shepherd of the Lake in Prior Lake MN (3611 North Berens Road NW) on Friday June 27th at 11 am (please wear vibrant colors to honor Sue). A visitation will be held prior at Shepherd of the lake from 9 am to 11 am, followed by a reception. Sue’s family wants to thank all of those who have supported them and loved Sue so well.
