Wally Meyer, age 83, passed away August 1, 2016. A Celebration of Life with family and friends will be held at Ballard-Sunder Funeral & Cremation in Prior Lake on August 18, 2016 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM with prayers and reflections at 6:30 PM. Wally and his beloved wife, Madie, will be laid to rest at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

Wally was born on October 9, 1932 to Paul and Vera (Lubenow) Meyer in Welcome, MN. He grew up in Austin, MN and was lovingly called “Sonny” by his family. During his Austin High School years he became interested in boxing and it was clear that he was going to be a champ. He was a southpaw who developed into an accomplished Golden Glove boxer. Wally then enlisted in the U.S. Army where he proudly served during the Korean Conflict.

Following his military service, Wally attended Mankato State where he studied accounting. This began a 50+ year career as an accountant for a CPA firm and other companies in Minneapolis. In addition to working full-time, Wally also did taxes and accounting for several Prior Lake businesses. Most notably, was his long-standing 30+ years at T.J. Hooligans.

He met the love of his life, Madie, while working at Young-Quinlan Rothschild. They were true soulmates and on a beautiful day in November 1968 they married in South Dakota. Wally and Madie lived at Lakeside Manor on Prior Lake for most of their married life where they loved to entertain. Grilling and gazing at the beautiful lake view and sunsets were favorite pastimes. In his younger years, he enjoyed snowmobiling, but throughout the years, boating was by far the best of times. Wally enjoyed being the captain of every boat they owned and he relished sharing fond memories of boating with Madie, family and friends. He also enjoyed fishing, the Vikes, family road trips and vacations in Minnesota and Wisconsin, watching old westerns and pull-tab fun. When his beloved Madie passed away in 2005, his life changed forever and he was thankful to have his family and so many T.J. Hooligan’s friends.

Wally had a big heart with a quiet disposition and he loved being around people. He had a strong work ethic, he was loyal and an excellent listener. People felt comfortable sharing life stories with him and most of all, sharing many laughs. He was a caring and loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his daughter Donna (Clete) Mathiowetz, granddaughter Colleen (Jason) McDonald, nieces, nephews and grand-nephews.

There to greet Wally in Heaven are his wife and soulmate, Madie; his parents; and siblings, Joy Hays and Norma Nelson. His family would like to thank the nurses, home health aides and other medical staff who provided such wonderful care to Wally and thanks to all his friends for being a special part of Wally’s life journey.
