Sharon Joan Traxler, passed away on December 16, 2023, at her home in San Diego, CA. Sharon was a long-time resident of Prior Lake.

A Time of Gathering to honor Sharon will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2024 from 10:00 AM – Noon, with a Mass of Christian Burial at Noon, all at St. Michael Catholic Church, 16400 Duluth Avenue SE, Prior Lake. Father Tom Walker will preside. Livestreaming will be available at stmichael-pl.org and by clicking on the “Mass and Services” tab.

Sharon will be laid to rest at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Le Center at a later date.

Sharon was born on November 18, 1940, after her mother made a harrowing trip to the hospital during the Great Armistice Day Blizzard of 1940. One of five children, she grew up in Le Center, MN. Family lore suggests she met her husband, Norbert Traxler, at a local picnic when she was just an infant. They didn’t date and fall in love, of course, until many years later.

The couple married in 1959 and raised three children. While Norbert was active in his law career, Sharon attended the University of Minnesota and obtained her advanced teaching degree. She taught math at St. Michael Catholic School for many years and sang in a small music group during Mass every Sunday.

In her spare time, Sharon had several interests and pastimes. She loved playing golf and could play the sport until she was nearly 80 years old. She was also an avid bridge player, hosting numerous competitive bridge competitions in her home in Prior Lake.

Sharon was always an excellent gardener. She took her love of gardening to a new level and became a Master Gardener. She went on to use her expertise to help others solve their gardening issues and teach botany classes in the Minneapolis area. Cultivating roses was perhaps her favorite gardening achievement, although she also avidly canned fruits and vegetables every growing season.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, Clayton and Irene Scheffert; and her husband, Norbert Traxler.

She is survived by her three children, Christine Traxler, Jim Traxler, and Laura Lee; as well as seven grandchildren, Kat Traxler, Sarah Traxler, Abby Warne, April Traxler, Alex Lee, Casey Lee Coutts, and Ryan Lee. She is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren.

Condolence from Schultz Mary on December 21st, 2023 2:29 pm

Norm and Sharon were good people, wonderful party hosts, enthusiastic about life, generous to their friends and so much fun to be around. All their children were exposed to some great stories only Norm could tell with his gift of humor. May those stories and memories be shared with the next generations. It’s an Irish thing.
Love, Mary Schultz

I am so sorry for your loss.

Condolence from Terri on December 22nd, 2023 1:33 pm

Sharon was a wise and powerful mentor to me. She exposed me to excellent cooking and recipes, taught me so much about gardening and being an advocate for myself.

Sharon taught me many interests that I carry with me today; golf, tennis, cooking, gardening, faith; growing and eating all vegetables, canning, love of travel, inquisition
and life long love for learning and involement.

Norb and Sharon’s love and respect for each other was always apparent and when the music went up, he’d twirl her like a ballerina to their loved Irish tunes.

She will be missed; a pillar in her community and it warms my heart to know she is back with Norb, dancing again forever.

Thoughts, prayers and condolences to Jim, Laura, Chris, Kat, Abby, April, Casey, Alex, Ryan and Sarah. Peace for you all.
