Sharon Christianson, of Lydia, passed away December 15, 2023 at the age of 81. A Christian Funeral will be held at Fish Lake Immanuel Lutheran Church (20200 Fairlawn Avenue) in Prior Lake on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at 11:00 AM with a time of gathering from 9:00 – 10:45 AM. Rev. Dr. Brent L. Parrish will preside, and Sharon will be laid to rest at Immanuel Fish Lake Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred and will be distributed by Sharon’s family in her honor.

On January 17, 1942, Sharon Marie Mathews was born to parents Clarence & Myrtle (Mueller) Mathews. She was the oldest of three girls and loved growing up on her family farm in Shakopee. Sharon was a hard worker and spent lots of time out in the fields and tending to the animals with her dad. This is where Sharon’s lifelong love for animals began.

Sharon graduated from Shakopee High School and enrolled at Concordia University for a year. During this time, Sharon also began working at the Stagecoach with her mom. She was a part of the Stagecoach community for many years. Sharon was also involved in local and national horse shows. It was at a horseshow that she met the love of her life, Philip Christianson.

On April 7, 1967, Sharon and Phil exchanged wedding vows at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Their marriage was blessed with many happy years and their beloved son, Matthew. They eventually settled in Lydia. As a family they participated in competitive horse shows for many years. They also enjoyed camping, driving around in their little convertible and taking family road trips out west.

Throughout her life, Sharon was a very hard worker. She spent many years working in logistics at Unisys. Next, she worked at Club Mystic, and her final working years were spent at the Prior Lake State Bank. Sharon made lifelong friends all along the way.

In her spare time, Sharon enjoyed playing cards and baking. Sharon made sugar cookies for every holiday and loved sharing them with coworkers and friends. Sharon was also very involved at her church. She loved attending the senior luncheons, helping Pastor Parrish with his pies and going out for lunch after Sunday services with her dear friends.

Sharon spent a lot of time with her animals. Over the years, they had nearly every kind of pet you could imagine: horses, dogs, goats, cats, a pot-bellied pig and even a raccoon. Sharon spent many years breeding and raising dogs with her specialty being Cavalier King Charles Spaniels.

She was a strong-willed woman with a feisty spirit. She will be remembered always by her loving family. She is survived by her son, Matthew (Jacqui) Christianson; grandson, Benji Christianson; sister, Mona (Al) Snell; nephew, Brandon Snell. Sharon was greeted in Heaven by her husband, Philip Christianson; grandson, Teddy Christianson; parents, Clarence & Myrtle Mathews; sister, Clarissa Mathews.

Condolence from Katherine Parrish on December 19th, 2023 6:35 pm

We were so blessed to know Sharon, and have been so blessed by the dog she gave us this past July. Our little Luffy has gotten us through some extremely hard times, and we are so sad to know that we won’t be able to visit her and see the joy on her face when we brought Luffy over to see her. I’m so grateful we got him when we did, because he was raised by the best and it shows in his personality. What a wonderful woman. She will be missed greatly.

Condolence from Bob and Gail Barsness on December 22nd, 2023 2:53 pm

Sincere sympathy to Sharon’s family. She was a valued employee at Prior Lake State Bank for several years, and always had a smile for anyone she encountered. Especially appreciated was her willingness to bring her goats, puppies, kittens, whatever, to the bank’s community appreciation picnics – kids in attendance had their own little “petting zoo”. she will be missed by many.

Condolence from Nancy Klingberg on January 3rd, 2024 6:15 pm

Hi Matt, I made Sharon’s friendship through my husband, Gene klingberg. We shared experiences of the horse showing work and rewards, love of cats and Siamese kittens, the rural life. When we visited her over a year ago and at some recent mutual relative funeral services, fun to have cousins Gene and Sharon reminisce. Sincerely, Nancy Anderson Klingberg, Hoffman MN.
