In Loving Memory of Saysana (Peter) Douangphouxay
Saysana (Peter) Douangphouxay, a beloved son, cherished brother, and dedicated Army National Guard veteran, departed this world on February 13, 2024, leaving a legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering loyalty.
Born on July 19, 1986, to refugee parents who fled persecution in their homeland of Laos. Peter was raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he embraced his family’s resilience and strength. He is the fourth of nine children.
After graduating from Lakeville High School, Peter pursued his passion for storytelling and cinematography at Full Sail University, honing his skills in digital cinematography. Inspired by his family’s history of service and sacrifice, he answered the call to serve his country, joining the Army National Guard with a deep sense of duty and honor.
Peter’s infectious laughter and genuine warmth brought joy to all who had the privilege of knowing him. A natural entertainer, Peter had a knack for making people laugh and ensuring that every moment spent in his company was filled with happiness.
In his professional life, Peter found joy and fulfillment in the camaraderie of his co-workers, whom he cherished as a second family. Their support and companionship enriched his life and added an extra layer of warmth to his workplace.
In his leisure time, Peter found solace and joy in the great outdoors. He had a deep appreciation for nature and treasured moments spent hunting, fishing, and camping with loved ones. These outdoor adventures provided him with a sense of tranquility and a chance to connect with the beauty of the world around him.
Behind Peter’s warm smile and playful spirit was a profound sense of gratitude for the freedoms he enjoyed, thanks to the sacrifices of his parents and grandparents. His father’s courageous service in the secret war in Laos, fighting alongside American forces against communist oppression, instilled in Peter a deep appreciation for the values of freedom and democracy.
As the grandson of a provincial governor in Laos, Peter was born into a legacy of leadership and courage. Despite enduring persecution and imminent danger, his family’s steadfast allegiance to the United States propelled them through a harrowing journey of survival and hope, culminating in their finding refuge in the United States.
Though Peter’s time with us was brief, his memory will forever be cherished by his mother and stepfather, Chanthavy and Chareunphonh; siblings, Chay, Jerica, Thai, Kat, Matt, Joseph, Tina, Michael, Pamela, Gavin, Angela, and Paula; nieces and nephews, Minnie, Winnie, Ella, Chloe, Sophie, Kanda, and Lavi; relatives, and friends. He leaves a legacy of love, laughter, and service that will continue inspiring and uplifting others for generations. Rest in peace, dear brother. We love you deeply and will miss you more than words can express. Your light will forever shine bright in our hearts.
He was greeted in Heaven by his father, Somphith Douangphouxay; niece Bailey Douangphouxay; grandparents and other relatives.

I’ve worked with Peter for over 5 years at The Bernard Group. Peter was always making people laugh and will be missed terrible by his coworkers! The world lost a good heart and a good person. My prayers go out to his family.

This is such a shocking loss for everyone that Peter has encountered. I worked with Peter for close to 6 years. Through all the amount of stress we carried, he had a smile and laugh that made things go easier and smoother. Walking through the floor and not seeing his smiling face is noticeably missed now. Thoughts and prayers to his family!
I did not not know Peter – however I work with & know one of his siblings – my heart grieves for the loss of your son – your brother… your friend – your colleague – Peter leaves behind many who loved him & will miss him; he leaves behind a legacy of leadership, friendship, and joy. sending my love to all those who knew & loved Peter
