Ronald Russell Scott, of Lydia, passed away March 3, 2024 at the age of 86. A Funeral will be held on Monday, March 11, 2024 at 11:00 AM, with a visitation from 9:30 – 11:00 AM at Lydia Zion United Methodist Church. Pastor Mark Chapman will preside, and Ron will be laid to rest at Concord Hill Cemetery in Lydia. Matthew Scott, Adam Bullyan, Michael Huffstutler, Keith Maki, Gavin Bullyan and Sebastian Bullyan will serve as pallbearers. In Lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred and will be distributed in Ron’s honor by his family.

On August 11, 1937, Chester and Dorothy (Morrell) Scott celebrated the birth of their son, Ronald Russell Scott. Ron was the oldest of the three children, and he loved growing up in Jordan with his siblings, Ken and Sandy. In school, Ron enjoyed playing football and participating in band.

After graduating from Jordan High School, Ron joined the Airforce. During his time in the military, Ron learned many skills, including the electrician trade. He proudly served his county at Homestead Base in Florida for four years before being honorably discharged in June of 1961.

Just two months after returning home, Ron married the love of his life, Karen Killian. Ron and Karen exchanged wedding vows at Lydia Zion UMC on August 19, 1961. Their marriage was blessed with many happy years and four wonderful children.

Shortly after Ron and Karen were married, Ron began building their home near Karen’s family’s farm in Lydia. He got the wood for their house from trees on his grandparents’ farm. This was a meaningful and thrifty way to build their home.

In 1967, the Scott family started to grow. Over the next 18 years, Ron and Karen welcomed four wonderful children, Bradley, Sue, Amy and Matthew. As a family, they enjoyed spending time at church and helping the Threshers every summer. Ron was a dedicated father. He never missed a sporting event or school activity. He taught his family the importance of hard work, generosity and faithfulness. These are values he also passed onto the grandkids when they arrived.

Ron was a skilled electrician, woodworker, mechanic and carpenter. He could fix anything and often shared his talents with his family, friends and church community. Ron always had a creative and clever way of approaching projects.

In his free time, Ron enjoyed helping Karen with her garden, volunteering at church and traveling. Some of his favorite trips were to Normandy, Honduras, Denmark, Sweden, and through the Panama Canal. Ron also loved taking the entire family on Disney Cruises! Another passion of Ron’s was his work with the Scott Carver Threshers. He was proud to be a founding member of the organization and was instrumental to many successful events. Ron passed on his love of tractors to his sons.

The past few years, Ron has suffered from dementia. Luckily he was surrounded by a family who loved him. Karen and Matthew were excellent caretakers which allowed Ron to remain in their home.

Ron was a wonderful, kind and generous man. He will be forever missed by his loving wife, Karen Scott; children, Susannah (Bill) Huffstutler, Amy (Adam) Bullyan and Matthew Scott; grandchildren, Katie (Keith) Maki, Michael Huffstutler, Thomas Huffstutler, Gavin Bullyan and Sebastian Bullyan; great-grandson, Carter Maki; sister, Sandy (Arthur) Nelson; sister-in-law, Dee Scott; other relatives and friends. Ron was greeted in Heaven by his son, Bradley Scott; parents, Chester & Dorothy Scott; brother, Ken Scott.
