Ron Ahl died from a six year battle with pappilary cancer on Saturday, November 15, 2014 at the age of 68. Celebration of Life Service will be Saturday, November 22nd at 4:00pm with visitation from 2:30-4:00pm all at Ballard-Sunder Funeral and Cremation, 4565 Pleasant Street SE, Prior Lake. Reverend Mike Golay will preside. Urn bearer will be Brian Barnes.

Ron was born on June 23, 1946 in Minneapolis, MN to parents Donald and Bernetha (St. Martin) Ahl. He was the middle child to siblings Kay and Kenneth. He grew up in Bloomington and this is where he started a life-long admiration for cars. He was a 1964 graduate of Bloomington high school.

After graduating from the University of Minnesota, he worked in several different positions before beginning his career at the Goodyear corporate office in St. Louis Park for 16 years. Shortly after (1993), he and Monica built and opened up Heartland Tire Goodyear in Lakeville, which they currently still operate. He loved to work hard, knowing the reward would be a satisfied customer. He also worked part-time for the Scott County Sheriff’s Department, doing snowmobile, water and road patrol.

He loved everything about cars. Taking them apart and putting them back together. Professional drag racing at Raceway Park and Brainerd International Raceway. He owned many classic cars and took an appreciation for anyone who took meticulous care of their motorized vehicles.

He met Monica Nelson while the two worked at the Goodyear corporate office and after two years of courtship, they were married on August 31, 1984 in Minneapolis. They enjoyed traveling together to such places as the Caribbean, Paris, Panama Canal, Florida and cruises, often times with the children and grandchildren, as being together with their family, was their priority. Family boating on Prior Lake was also one of Ron’s great enjoyments.

Known as a generous, loving, and hard-working, Ron will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Monica Nelson; children, Michael (Nikki) Ahl of New Market, Derek (Michelle) Nelson of Shakopee, Kelley (Greg “Bud”) Kosin of Savage; grandchildren, Hannah, Garbriella and Luke Ahl, Zachary Etrheim, Madeleine Nelson, Ethan Kosin; sister Kay (Steve) Novosel; brother, Kenneth Ahl.

Ron will be welcomed into heaven by his parents, Donald and Bernetha Ahl.

The family would like to thank Dr. Joseph Rinowski from Park-Nicollet Shakopee, Dr. Brenda Larson from Meadow Clinic in St. Louis Park and the nurses and staff at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Shakopee, for all the care and passion given to Ron.

Condolences for the family of “Ronald “Ron” Ahl”

Condolence from al krukowski on November 18th, 2014 1:24 am

my deepest sympathy to all who loved ron. i have been praying for ron and his family from the moment i learned of his serious illness. while ron was still able to work a few hours per day, i will always remember the hour we spent alone in his office contemplating the eternal things of this life. it was heartfelt and emotional, but we left with a peace and comfort that only jesus can offer. ron wanted nothing more than to be reunited with his mom and dad, in the event that healing didn’t come his way this side of eternity. i was able to share an assurance that gave ron confidence. i have known ron professionally for nearly 30 years, but this was by far the best hour of our lives! i trust we shall be reunited once again.

We want to express our sympathy to the family of Ron. He was honest and fair in his business and he enjoyed working with cars very much. We always enjoyed talking with him when we brought our vehicles into Goodyear. He was so compassionate and understanding. Through the years, both of us truly respected him and considered Ron a friend. We will miss him very much. He cared about everyone.

Dear Friends, Just a note to let you know that we are praying for each of you. Even though the sickness was for an extended time it is still unexpected and brings with it shock. I am sorry that I was not able to attend the memorial service this afternoon due to some unexpected responsibilities. It was an honor to know Ron and to visit with him on many occasions there at the shop. He will be missed. I know that God’s grace will help you through these difficult days. My prayers are with you.

Condolence from Robert & Marie Mile on December 6th, 2014 7:04 am

We wanted to share our condolences with Ron’s family. It is never easy to have to say goodbye to a loved one. The pain of loss can be unbearable. Our Creator promises us that one day this pain will be just a memory. That beautiful promise can be found at Revelation 21:3,4. Our pain and suffering will be a thing of the past, and we can cry tears of joy as we welcome back the ones that we love so much. We hope you find comfort in those promises.
