Roger Steiner passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, February 20, 2015 at the age of 66. Celebration of Life Service will be Tuesday, February 24 at 11:00am with visitation from 9:30-11:00am all at Shepherd of the Lake Lutheran Church, 3611 N. Berens Road NW, Prior Lake. Reverend Diana Hunstad will preside. Pallbearers will be Brad Steiner, Kerry Krause, Dwight Mosbrucker, Norbert Fries, Jr., Jeremy Meier, Mark Hirning, David Unruh, Josh Meier, Peter Roeber, Mark Roeber.

Roger was born April 3, 1948 in Mott, ND to parents, Marcus and Elizabeth (Schmitt) Steiner. He was the ninth child of 14 children. He grew up on the family farm and was active in Future Farmers of America. In high school, he was active singing in musicals and played football for his high school team. He graduated from Mott high school and was offered a collegiate scholarship in both academics and football.

He then attended North Dakota State University where he was active in Theta Chi Fraternity, and eventually graduated with a major in mathematics. He enjoyed returning to NDSU for the annual pig banquet and reminisce with his old frat buddies.

After college, he moved to northern California and took a job with Levitz Furniture as a merchandise buyer and eventually moved back to Minneapolis and became a store manager. He then took a job at ADC Telecommunications being an Information Analyst. He had the pleasure to travel internationally to places like Australia, Finland, Germany and Mexico. He especially loved the trips to Mexico as he loved the Mexican culture. He retired in 2011, after thirty plus years of service. He was a member of the APICS, with certifications in PIRM, CPIM and CSCP.

Set up on a blind date, Roger met the love of his life, Janice Roeber. After about a year of dating, they proclaimed their love and were married on October 2, 1976 at Lutheran Church of the Ascension in Burnsville, MN. They were blessed with three children, Daniel, Christopher and Erin.

Roger loved the following:

The Sun…..History…..Science Fiction….. Music, bebopping…..Some say he was a good dancer, some say he was a lovely singer – a resonant bass…..Sprouting trivia – sometimes true, sometimes otherwise…..Finding solutions…..A slow steady battle with the elements…..Trying to create the perfect beach, an ever lush and weedless lawn…..The warmth and spirit of Latino culture…..Trying to do the right thing…..Breaking unnecessary and restrictive rules…..Being jolly and making others jolly…..Drinking good wine on the patio…..Dissecting financial markets…..Pretending he didn’t care for the dog…..Lazy evening sunset pontoon cruises…..seeing the world, connecting with its people.

Loving, devoted and friend to many, Roger will be deeply missed by his wife, Jan Steiner; children, Daniel (Angie) Steiner, Christopher Steiner, Erin Steiner; siblings, Mary (Larry) Mosbrucker, Fran (Norbert) Fries, Regina (Jim) Marthaller, Howard (Alice) Steiner, Jo (Ray) Betancourt, Shirley (Al) Cole, Roy Steiner, Eugene (Annette) Steiner, Rose Ward, Delilah (Fred) Meier, Lora (Bob) Hirning; brother in law, Harvey Unruh.

He is preceded in death by parents, Marcus and Elizabeth Steiner; siblings, Delores (Harold) Krause, Florence Unruh, Richard Steiner, Eva Steiner.

I’m sorry for your family’s loss and join you in celebrating Roger’s life! I’m glad I could meet him. Reading now about his love of Mexican culture, I remember fondly a shared meal at Nuevo Leon restaurant.

Condolence from Lori Koester on February 24th, 2015 7:23 am

I worked with Roger at ADC many years ago on the 494 strip (yes, that long ago). I learned much from him and I am sorry to hear of his passing. My thoughts of peace are with the family and friends.

Condolence from Linda K. Farrell on February 24th, 2015 9:04 am

Jan and family: My deepest sympathies to each of you on the loss of your husband, father and friend. Roger was such a good guy and hard worker. He didn’t let those Roeber boys get anything over on him, did he, Jan! I firmly believe he was met at Heaven’s Gate by his loved ones and “the neighbor to the west”, Kenny Farrell. God bless their souls and may he rest in God’s eternal peace. Thinking of all of you during this difficult time.

Condolence from Mandy Kubik on July 28th, 2015 12:25 pm

Better late than never!

I’m so sorry for your loss. Roger was a beloved OX brother to my dad, Craig Kubik, who passed away last year. I believe they were also roommates during their time at NDSU? Probably too many stories between the two they took to the grave! ha ha. Roger’s kindness to me during dad’s illness and after his passing meant a lot. I know he loved my dad and dad loved him and Jan. With Dewey K’s recent death, I just found out Roger passed away too. Very sad, but I like to think they are all now drinking beer and swapping stories and maybe singing some raunchy theta chi songs together. Hugs.

Condolence from Troy Hansen on July 20th, 2016 12:55 pm

My sincerest condolences on Roger’s passing. I had the very great fortune of working with Roger at ADC Telecommunications. He was a phenomenal mentor, boss, and friend to me. I honestly owe my whole career to Roger. I began my career as his intern and he spent countless hours training me. It was his passion and support for what he did that helped me become what I am today. It was truly an honor to work with Roger. He’ll be missed.
