Richard E. Mejia, age 75 of Prior Lake, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on October 22, 2022. A Time of Gathering will be held for Richard on Friday, October 28, 2022 from 5-8 PM at Ballard-Sunder Funeral & Cremation, 4565 Pleasant St. SE, Prior Lake.

On February 27, 1947, Richard was born in Minneapolis to parents Charles and Felicita. Growing up, he lived with his parents and five siblings in North Minneapolis. Richard graduated from Vocational High School in 1965. He was married to his first wife, Leanne, and had three children. Richard married his second wife Candace and had three more children. Richard worked at Metropolitan Environmental Services operating a sewage treatment plant; a position he held for 37 years.

Richard loved spending time with his family. Whether he was fishing, just going out on the boat, taking annual trips to Puerto Vallarta, watching football, or gathering at home to make tamales; he was never happier than when he was with his family. And if he could find anyone that would listen, politics was one of his favorite topics of conversations.

When a family activity wasn’t going on, Richard could be found playing Solitaire on his phone, watching political news channels, learning to cook a new recipe, listening to music, or chatting with anyone and everyone! A true social butterfly, he could make a friend wherever he went. He was immensely grateful for the many close lifelong friendships he had.

Richard’s easy-going positive outlook and sense of humor will forever be missed by his wife of 46 years, Candace; children, Timothy, Beth, Jen (Dale) Rudolph, Jay (Libby), Nic (Nichole), and Richard (Lisa); grandchildren, Dana, Haley, Blake, Jackson, Marya, Kiley, Ethan, Brodie, Joaquin, Allie, Jamison, Mila, Ben and Jake; brothers Alex (Julie) and Charles (Esther), sisters Vicki (Larry) Bronson and Mary Ahern, and many other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Felicita, and sister Maggie.

Richard’s family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Hoff and Nurse Komba and N.A. Massa at St. Francis Hospital for their excellent care of Richard.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Richard’s name to the charity of your choice.
