Ramon was born on December 10, 1938 in Agdao, Davao City, Philippines. Ramon was the “kuya,” the firstborn son of Sotero and Esperanza Hizon. He spent his early years in Cotobato City. Ramon graduated from Notre Dame of Cotobato High School, as Salutatorian and president of the Senior class. After high school, Ramon went to Manila to attend Colegio de San Juan de Letran. He received his associate degree in pre-medicine in 1957. Ramon went on to study medicine at the University of Santo Tomas College of Medicine, where he graduated in 1962.

He was a devout Catholic and choir member of St. Thomas Aquinas, St. Vincent de Paul, and Church of the Magdalen parishes.

Ramon loved golf, University of Notre Dame football, and KU basketball. In 1981, he and six friends founded the Pengo Pengo Golf Association (PPGA) to promote golf and friendship in the Filipino community of Wichita. He also enjoyed seeing the world by cruise ship, singing karaoke, and telling corny puns and jokes. Ramon loved to laugh and make people laugh.

Condolences for the family of “Ramon R. Hizon”

Condolence from Anne and Gavin on March 6th, 2020 10:00 pm

Tito Ramon has always been a kind soul and have always treated Tita Perla’s family as his own. I remember the times when they visited the Philippines and I have always felt I belong in his heart. I am thankful for his kind soul as he supported Tita Perla’s kindness to our family especially to me and my mom. I know that he is God’s instrument so that I can be where I am today. I will always and forever be grateful to him and my Tita Perla. Even though I could’ve spend more time with him, I will cherish my memories of him. You are in a better place, Tito Mon. Say hi to mom, lolo and lola for me. Gavin and I love you.

Condolence from Elaine Clark on March 8th, 2020 10:11 am

I am a X-ray Technoligist at Via Christi St Francis and began working with Dr. Hizon as a student in 1977. I have the greatest respect for this man. He was a wonderful mentor in Radiology to all the staff . It wasn’t long until you knew when to talk and not to talk. His steady hand and knowledge of Radiology was his trademark . He would whistle and sing when in a good mood and then swing his arm as if striking a golf ball. I worked with him during his tenure at St Francis until his retirement. May God Bless you, Dr. Hizon.

A dear Friend who will be greatly missed. There is no better gentleman. Certainly one of a kind. The heavens are rejoicing. We love you dear Friend, our hearts are broken but happy knowing that you are now finally in the company of Angels.

Condolence from Donnette Brittain on March 8th, 2020 6:40 pm

I also, worked with Dr. Hizon, along with Elaine Clark. I went thru my training at St. Francis Hospital beginning in 1972, the same year he began his residency in Radiology. So I worked with him until he retired. I loved working with him, he was someone to look up to, with his wisdom, and caring nature. We could play tricks on him and he loved it. I loved hearing stories about his family and his children, as I was raising my own family! He made us laugh! We hated when he left us to retire, but we understood. I saw him a few years ago at the hospital and we were right back to being friends immediately! What a beautiful soul! Rest now, Dr. Hizon. You are missed. Donnette

Dear Family of Ramon and Perla,
I knew your loved ones in Wichita when I taught a fitness class they faithfully attended when they were in town. How the whole class enjoyed their cheerful kindness, humor, intelligence, and dedication! I know now that Ramon was ahead of the curve on some of the PD research and always requested a move we named “fast feet” to work on CNS stimulation. He had a whole series of humorous comments to go with our work and I chuckle as I recall those days. I knew that they were both retired physicians but they were humble and didn’t speak too much about themselves. I usually learned things when one spouse would privately tell me honorable things about the other. I lost both of my parents this past year. We expected my father to pass, but when my mother died unexpectedly four months later, it was more than a double impact. I was struck when I saw that Perla died unexpectedly so soon after Ramon’s passing, so I wanted to reach out with my sincerest condolences. It was my honor to know them. Even though you and I have never met, I wanted to let you know how much I appreciated them and that I am praying for you. We know that they are free in a way we can only imagine, finally face to face with the Lord. But they will be tremendously missed here. Know that many people care about your sorrow.

Condolence from Michael Neuman on November 30th, 2021 3:34 pm

Dear Perla,

It has been several years since I googled my former colleagues at Saint Francis. I am very sad to see that Ramon passed away last year. He was the kindest person, who helped mentor me during my early years in radiology. I loved the times I spent with him at work and on the golf course. He was always very generous with his time.

I hope you have found comfort in your memories of Ray. He was a special man.
