Patricia’s life story

Patricia (Trish) Joyce Ferrin, 69

Patricia (Trish) Joyce Ferrin was born on August 25, 1943 to Otto and Catherine Werner in Huron, SD and passed away at her residence near Webster, MN on Friday, March 1, 2013. Trish attended Huron High School and upon graduation, moved to Minneapolis where she met and married her husband, Mike Ferrin.
Trish enjoyed antiquing and filled her beloved log home with eclectic finds such as 17th century quilts, Americana artifacts and various items that recalled a simpler time. A lifelong supporter of animal rights, Trish opened her home to any and all creatures in need of love and sanctuary – dogs, cats, birds, and even raccoons, snakes and a bobcat. Visitors were always charmed by the evolving menagerie and were especially entertained by her beloved African Gray parrots, Gonzo and Andy. She loved reading, the movie Popeye, delighting family and friends with her countless stories of youth and spending time with her grandchildren, Tiegan and Stone.

Trish and Mike owned and operated Ferrin farms where they raised cattle, crops and Arabian horses. They traveled throughout Canada and the U.S. showing their horses and winning numerous awards along the way. Everyday, 7 days a week, Trish left her home at midnight, working until 6am at the family’s commercial cleaning company and returning home to fulfill her other roles – wife, mother, farmer. For 40 years she worked diligently to support her family. Her commitment, sacrifice, and work ethic inspired all of those around her, particularly her children.

Her cancer diagnosis did not dampen her independent streak or her fighting spirit. Always a health food proponent, she eschewed common therapies and instead embraced holistic treatments and Eastern philosophies in treating her cancer. Just as she lived her life as fully and naturally as possible, so she approached her treatment.

Trish is survived by her husband of 44 years, Mike at the family home; her two sons, Chad of Los Angeles, CA, and Justin of Webster, MN; her grandchildren, Tiegan and Stone; her brothers and sisters, Harold Werner [Gina] of Amarillo, TX; Jan Logan [Tom] of Burnsville, MN; Connie Murphy of St. Paul, MN; Terry Werner [Joan] of Columbia Falls, MT and Rick Werner [Judy] of Lexington, VA. She is preceded in death by her mother, Catherine Werner and father, Otto Werner and a sister, Cheryl Matthies.

Services are pending and cremation has taken place.
