Molly Gallagher Carter passed away October 12, 2022, at the age of 57 years old. Her kind heart and caring spirit will be greatly missed by the many who loved her.

A Celebration of Life was held at Ballard Sunder Funeral Home (4564 Pleasant Street, Prior Lake) on Wednesday, October 19 from 4:00-7:00 PM. with a Memorial Service at 7:00 PM. Family and Friends are able to watch a Zoom recording of the service at the following link: Molly Gallagher Carter Memorial Service.

Molly was born on March 21, 1965, to Lawrence and Bernadette (McCarty) Gallagher in Waseca, Minnesota. Growing up in Waseca, she attended Sacred Heart Elementary School and graduated from Waseca High School in 1983.

After graduating, Molly chose the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph to further her education, and received her bachelor’s degree in business in 1987. She also earned a master’s degree from the University of Minnesota.

She met her future husband, Tim Carter, when they worked together at Menard’s. They married on June 1, 1991, and made their home in Prior Lake. Tim and Molly welcomed their two children in the coming years: Shannah Bernadette on August 17, 1996, and Trevor Clayton on March 26, 1998.

Recreationally, Molly was a runner. She ran cross country in high school and college, and participated in marathons throughout the years. Playing intramural softball with her husband, Tim, was another fun way to stay active and social.

Molly was a highly respected human resources professional throughout her career. She proudly worked for the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis for 12 years, and helped the Fed open its new 8-story facility downtown in 1997.

Following her tenure with the Fed, Molly moved on to work at Mystic Lake Casino in Prior Lake so she could be closer to her family, which was very important to her. She most recently served as HR Manager for ASAP, Inc.

Aside from a stellar business career, Molly’s true passion was found in coaching volleyball and working with kids. She spent many years coaching at M1 Volleyball Club in Bloomington, including a most cherished opportunity to coach alongside her daughter, Shannah. She enjoyed following her former players over the years, even going to watch them play in college.

Molly will be remembered most as a connector, and for the way she valued people. She loved being with those she built relationships with throughout her lifetime. She was often the one making sure no one lost touch, organizing gatherings with high school and college friends, co-workers and family. If anyone reached out to Molly to get together, the answer was always a resounding “yes!”.

Molly is survived by her husband, Tim; her daughter, Shannah; and her son, Trevor; along with her siblings Tim, Sean, Patrick, Meghan, and Brendan; and her brother-in-law, Tony (along with their families); as well as her father-in-law, Clayton.

She is preceded in death by her parents, and her mother-in-law, Barb.

A celebration of Molly Carter’s life will be held Wednesday, October 19 at Ballard-Sunder Funeral & Cremation, 4565 Pleasant Street SE, Prior Lake, MN 55372. From 4:00-7:00 p.m., there will be a reception with the family, and a ceremony will follow at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Molly’s name to the Paws and Claws Humane Society at 3224 19th Street NW, Rochester, MN 55902.

Condolence from Zack Blakeley on October 14th, 2022 1:00 pm

Molly, was my manager at ASAP for the past 1.5 years. She always brought an upbeat and positive attitude to her work and was a strong advocate for her team members. She gave us the autonomy that we needed to do our work the best way we knew how, and had confidence in us to do things our own way.

I feel more confident in my career and my abilities for having known her. She always was easy to talk to and expressed a very genuine interest in our lives even though we all worked so far apart.

I am better for having known her and she will be sorely missed not just professionaly, but personally as well.

Condolence from Jessie Pedersen on October 14th, 2022 9:32 pm

Molly has truly touched many lives as a coach all these years, and my daughter’s is no exception. She was such a quiet force and the kind of role model you hope your daughter has the opportunity to spend her minutes with as a young adult. My daughter was very lucky to have her as a coach at M1 for a few years while in high school. How lucky was she, and where we to have had her grace us with her talents, infectious positivity and supportive smile for those years? Thank you to Molly‘s family for sharing her with us. We are so grateful! We are so sorry for your loss and our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Condolence from Peggy Foster-Rush on October 16th, 2022 9:21 am

Molly and I worked together at the Federal Reserve from 1995 to 2002. Fun, bright, enthusiastic, caring, and a great sense of humor is what I remember about Molly.
We worked together during the years both Shannon and Trevor were born. She loved her family and she loved life. I even have hosta plants some 20 years later she shared with a number of us one weekend many summers ago.
So thankful to have known Molly and what a bright light she brought to this world. Sending my most heartfelt condolences to Tim, Shannon, and Trevor.

Condolence from Tim Carter on October 18th, 2022 7:59 am

Thank you so much Peggy. I remember the hosta sharing day and how much Molly enjoyed it. Molly also had so many fond memories of working at the Fed, but mostly how great her co-worker were. Take care.

Condolence from Kathleen Spoo on October 16th, 2022 12:56 pm

Though I haven’t seen Molly in person in years, I’ve never forgotten her commitment to best health, her husband, children, family, friends, coworkers, and anyone she met! Her “thousand watt smile” is unforgettable! It’s hard to imagine life here on Earth, with her now in Heaven, but I am certain that anyone who knew her will keep the memories of her alive in their minds and hearts for a very long time. I know I am grateful to have known her, at least a little. I am praying for all who love her, as life goes on now in a “new normal”, trusting that Molly will guide the lives of all who knew her. And, in time, I hope the sorrow felt now will one day yield to the memories of good times with her, and the way she lived her life. Rest in peace, to this lovely woman!
