WEB Mike

Michael Breimhorst, of Prior Lake (formerly of Jordan), passed away the afternoon of May 3, 2017 at the age of 64. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at 11:00 AM with visitation from 9:30 – 11:00 AM at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Jordan. Father Timothy Yanta will preside, and Tim Steinhoff, Jesse Heckman, Dan Neutgens, Frank Breimhorst, Denny VonBank and Marlin Pint will act as pallbearers. Mike will be laid to rest with his parents at Calvary Cemetery in Jordan.

Mike was born on December 22, 1952. Mike was the younger brother to Jeanne, but it wasn’t until a few years later that Mike settled in to his true family. At a young age, Mike and Jeanne were adopted by Martin and Marie (Steinhoff) Breimhorst. Mike was now the youngest of four children, and he loved growing up in Jordan with his older siblings, Tom, Jim and Jeanne.

During High School, Mike made many wonderful friends. He was a nice guy and was well-liked by his peers. Mike was very active in athletics and especially enjoyed being on the football and wrestling teams.

After graduated from Jordan High School in 1970, Mike began taking college courses in Wilmar. Mike had a bright future and so many wonderful things to look forward to. Unfortunately, Mike’s life was turned upside down in the blink of an eye.

Mike was in a horrible head-on collision during a treacherous winter storm. He was badly injured and remained in a coma for more than five weeks. During that time, his family and friends pulled together to support Mike. They never lost hope that this strong young man would pull through.

He eventually awoke from his coma, but Mike was changed forever. Doctors determined that Mike had suffered a traumatic brain injury and had severe atrophy in his arm and leg. During his struggles, Mike never got down. He always remained positive and had a zest for life.

Mike loved fishing, tubing and playing cards. His dad even made him a special card-holder to make it easier for Mike to play. Mike loved spending time with his family and friends. He’d even have the occasional beer during visits with special friends. Mike loved listening to music and going to concerts. He also enjoyed playing the slots at local casinos.

There were many interests in Mike’s life, but the most important thing was his faith. Mike was a lifelong member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Jordan. He attended Mass when he could and volunteered his time helping to clean the church. Mike also had a special date every Tuesday with a friend who would pray with him. This time of prayer and reflection meant so much to Mike.

Throughout his life, Mike lived at several assisted living facilities. But he was most happy at his current home. For the past 11 years, Mike lived at the Partnerships on Credit River. He absolutely loved the other residents, and the staff was like family to him. They provided excellent care and had a lasting impact on Mike’s life.

After a lifetime of trials and struggles, Mike is now at peace. He went home to be with the Lord and was reunited with his parents, grandparents and guardian, Terri Steinhoff in Heaven. Mike was a kind man. He had a fierce determination and a great sense of humor. He will be deeply missed by his sister, Jeanne Knight of Montana; brothers, Tom Breimhorst of Indiana and Jim Breimhorst of Oregon; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Condolence from Jodi MacLennan on May 5th, 2017 10:02 am

To the Family and Friends of Michael ~~ I was honored to serve him as a care provider and his RN for nearly 30 years. During those times we sang every Neil Diamond song known; all seven verses of “The First Noel”; he beat me royally at poker on nearly every game; and, did many rosaries together. I just spent last Saturday afternoon with Mike at a music session he attended with his housemates. I will miss him greatly as will you all. We will all keep his memory and our special times together in our hearts! Blessings and Peace to you during this time of missing Mike ~~~ Jodi MacLennan, Partnerships for Minnesota Futures, Inc.
