Mayvis Smith, age 85 of Shakopee, formerly of Brooklyn Center, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 25, 2021.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11AM with a visitation 1-hour prior on Friday, January 14, 2022 at Ballard-Sunder Funeral Home, 833 S Marschall Rd., Shakopee. Mayvis will be laid to rest at Fort Snelling National Cemetery with Pastor Ali Tranvik and Pastor Cheryl Mathison presiding. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Grace Hospice at 1015 4th Ave. N, Suite 206 Minneapolis, MN 55405.
In Mountain Lake, MN on February 2, 1936, parents Nathaniel and Hazel (Nielson) Peterson celebrated the birth of their daughter, Mayvis Marie Peterson.
On June 28, 1958 Mayvis was united in marriage to Clayton Smith. They were blessed with 54 years together. Mayvis was a loving wife, mother, grandma, great grandma, and sister.
For 26 years, Mayvis was a preschool teacher at Cross of Glory Lutheran Church in Brooklyn Center. She touched many little lives. Whether it was her own family or the children she worked with, Mayvis treated others with compassion. She truly had a servant’s heart. In her free time, Mayvis enjoyed trips to the family cabin, a glass of wine while watching football, and wintering in Naples, Florida.
Mayvis is loved and missed by her children, Kari (Kate Thielen) Smith, Craig (Jen) Smith; grandsons, Jake (Anna) Smith, Luke (Kaurina Niznik) Smith; great-grandchildren, Lyla, Odin, Rowen; brothers, David Peterson, Richard (Kathleen) Peterson, Eugene (Dorothy) Peterson; many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.
Mayvis is preceded in death by her husband, Clayton; parents, Nathaniel and Hazel Peterson; brother, Robert (Inez) Peterson; sister-in-law, Sharon Peterson; father and mother-in-law, Clarence (Bernice) Smith.

Dear Smith Family,
