Marcella “Marcy” Hoffman, age 98, of Jordan, MN, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on November 21, 2023 at Oak Terrace Senior Assisted Living in Jordan.

A Time of Gathering to honor Marcy will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 PM on Thursday, November 30, 2023, at Ballard-Sunder Funeral & Cremation (104 First Street West) in Jordan. A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at a later date at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Jordan. Interment at Calvary Cemetery in Jordan.

Marcella was born June 17, 1925 to parents Anton and Margaret Gansen. She was raised on the family farm 3 miles north of Union Hill where she attended Grade School and graduated from New Prague High School at the age of 16. Marcy received her teaching degree and started teaching at the age of 18. She taught at several area country schools until she took time off to raise Warren, Wayne, Glen and Lois. After the children reached school age, Marcy was able to return to teaching where she spent her career at St. Wenceslaus Catholic School in New Prague. After retiring in 1987, she was a substitute teacher there for many years and also at St. John’s in Jordan.

Marcy and Arvid were married in 1947 and celebrated 45 years of marriage. In 1958 they bought a small farm of 32 acres where they raised hogs, chickens and ducks. They always had a very large garden from which they fed the family and shared the fruits of their labor with others. They also ran the farmland while they both worked full time jobs. Marcy’s other interests were sewing and fishing. She also spent many years as a judge at the Scott County Fair with 4H projects.

Marcy spent 20 years on the farm after Arvid passed away. She was determined to keep up the yard and the buildings and enjoyed mowing the grass. Both Marcy and Arvid were proud to provide a great place for their four children to grow up. Marcy finally moved off the farm in 2015 and spent 8 years at Oak Terrace in Jordan.

Marcy will be remembered for her determination for working hard and her motto to “never sit still, and to keep moving”. It is truly why she lived a long and full life. Deep down in all that hard work was also a great sense of humor. She loved a good laugh with others.

She was beautiful on the inside as well as the outside. Her greatest love was for her family, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Marcy is loved and will be greatly missed by sons, Wayne Hoffman and Glen (Carrie) Hoffman; daughter, Lois (Tom Dauwalter) Bendzick; daughter-in-law, Chris Hoffman; grandchildren, Michael (Stephanie) Hoffman, Brian Hoffman, Nicole (John) Lechner, Megan (Andrew Makovicka) Hoffman, Linsey (Chris Curry) Hoffman, Matt (Sam) Bendzick, Alex (Cortnie) Bendzick; great-grandchildren, Joey, Addie, Madelyn, Macy, and Whyatt; brother, Arnold (Pat) Gansen; sister, Leona Barten; sisters-in-law, Bernice Hoffman, MaryAnn Hoffman, and Betty Hoffman; brother-in-law, Virgil Schoenecker; and many other loving relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Arvid; and son, Warren.

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of Marcy. Marcy was a dear friend and co-worker of mine. The times my kids and I spent with Marcy are priceless. Marcy was a giver by nature. She always had time to listen, lend a hand and impart her wisdom. Marcy had a heart of gold. What a beautiful person inside and out. You are loved. I will cherish our time together and the memories we made along the way.

Marcy will always have a special place in my heart. She and I loved doing puzzles together when I worked at Oak Terrace.
She loved her family and would always say how proud she was of them. RIP Marcy❤️
