Lorraine Marie (Sarazin) Schleicher of Apple Valley, formerly of Shakopee, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, April 4, 2022 at the age of 95.

A visitation will be held for Lorraine from 3-6 PM on Sunday, April 10, 2022 at Ballard-Sunder Shakopee Chapel, 833 Marschall Rd, as well as on Monday, April 11, from 9:30-10:30 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Monday, April 11, at The Parish of St. Joachim and Anne (Church of St. Mark), 350 Atwood St. S, Shakopee. Lorraine will be laid to rest at Shakopee Catholic Cemetery.

On October 8, 1926, in Shakopee, MN, Lorraine was born to parents John and Genevieve (Scharf) Sarazin. Lorraine grew up on the family farm with her two sisters where she learned the value of hard work while helping her father with all aspects of farm life!

Lorraine was united in marriage on April 2, 1949 to Walter “Wally” Schleicher. They were blessed with four children—Shirley, Nancy, Dick, and Dan. A dedicated wife and mother, Lorraine always ensured that her family’s needs were met. As her family grew, and she became a proud grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, Lorraine’s love and dedication to her family continued to flourish. She was a strong and supportive grandmother and was never afraid to “put them in their place.” She never missed a family members’ birthday and always sent a personalized birthday card.

Outside of her family life, Lorraine stayed busy. She was a past President of both the St. Louis Park VFW Post 5632, and the Shakopee American Legion Post 2. She was also a member of the Prior Lake Auxiliary. Lorraine was also involved with the Heritage Singers and worked a variety of jobs throughout her lifetime, predominantly with Minnesota Rubber and as a Bingo Paymaster at Mystic Lake Casino. Her outgoing, adventurous nature allowed her to excel in all that she did. Lorraine was also a faithful Catholic. She was devoted to her faith and parish, offering many hours of prayer for her family and friends. Her love of Polka, Bingo, NASCAR, the Minnesota Twins, and her sharp wit will be deeply missed by her family.

She will forever be loved by her children, Shirley Thysell, Nancy (George) Mei, Richard (Lynne) Schleicher, and Dan (Jane) Schleicher; grandchildren, Justine Anderson, Walter (Sophia) Velishek, Roger Velishek, Aaron Thysell, Jim (Nicole) Mei, Jennifer (Chuck) Amundson, Angela (Danny) Notsch, Matt Woodford, Logan Schleicher, Kristin (Jon Hinnenkamp) Schleicher, Craig (Andrea Pelkey) Schleicher, Shawn (Megan) Borgerding; great-grandchildren, Dominic (Jessica) Anderson, Madison (Mitchell) Kilmer, Jake Mei, Josh Mei, Eden Mei, Justin Mei, Corey Mei, Abela Notsch, Dan Notsch III, Kaytlyn Notsch, Stephanie Notsch, Branden Notsch, Amy (Ben) Rolfzen, Calvin (Ashley) Amundson, Chris (Avery) Amundson, Connor Amundson, Austin (Grace) Velishek, Spencer Velishek, Monique Velishek, Nadia Velishek, Aaliyah Velishek, Violet Velishek, Rachel Velishek, Jeffery Kahman, Jolene Kahman, Jessica Rankin, Oliver Kroshus, Xavier Frie, Emersyn Borgerding, Camden Schleicher; many great, great-grandchildren; sister, Catherine Henry; and countless nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Lorraine is preceded in death by her husband, Wally; infant son, Joseph; grandson, Derek Schleicher; granddaughters-in-law, Tasha Mei and Julie Velishek; parents, John and Genevieve Sarazin; sister, Marge (Dennis) Elftman; brothers-in-law, Glen Trebesch and Harlon Henry.

Our thanks go to the DaVita Dialysis Clinic in Apple Valley for all their support, as well as to the employees and her friends at Ecumen Seasons at Apple Valley.

Condolence from Rebecca Milz on April 8th, 2022 10:30 am

Hello,
I have worked at Seasons in Apple Valley as dining manager for 9 years. I am never suppose to have favorites, however she was definitely one of mine. So kind, so real, always told it like it was. I loved some of our long conversations we had during meal time. She was truly one of a kind! May she rest in peace. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Best,
Rebecca Milz
