Kenneth A. Smith, 101, of Apple Valley, formerly of St. Louis Park, passed away on October 3, 2022.

A private burial will take place at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.

Kenneth, also known as Ken, Dad, Grandpa was creative and thoughtful. In his later years, his favorite hobbies included reading, eating ice cream, woodworking, and most recently cross stitching. He created something for just about everything and just about everyone through this craft. Bookmarks, alphabets, name signs, and so much more are now treasures that the family will have to remember him and smile for years to come. This simple act of creating something with his own two hands, kept him sharp through his golden years and made his loved ones feel special when he presented them with his latest creation that he thoughtfully made. His family was privileged enough to be able to gather to celebrate together for his 100th birthday. How rare and special it was to be able to be a part of such a milestone. That only marked one of his many milestones and memories he had throughout his lifetime. Kenneth was a proud member of the United States Navy and served our country during World War II. His ship, LST 310, was present at Normandy, France on D-Day.

Kenneth is loved and survived by Children; Bruce (Jeanne) Smith, Melissa (Mark) Schanno, Jody (Chris) Killmer; Grandchildren; Nicole (Matt) Call, Tony Smith, Amy (Bob) Schilling, Kelly (Jeremy) Illg, Cam (Jemma) Killmer, Megan Killmer, and Ryan Killmer; Great Grandchildren Brady, Connor, Lily, Olivia, Isla, and Emma. Preceded by Wife Elaine (Meland) Smith.

Condolence from Sharlyn Strauss on October 8th, 2022 3:01 pm

Jody, Chris and Family,
Our heartfelt sympathy to all of you in losing this special man. He touched so many hearts. I remember at Cam & Jemma’s wedding how you sisters wanted to make sure there was a “special spot” for Cam’s grandpa, because he was so important especially to Cam. He will be missed.
Life is a gift. Blessings to All.
Jim & Sherry Strauss
