Katie Lockrem, age 40 of Prior Lake, passed away on April 3, 2022 at her home while surrounded by her loving family and friends.

A celebration of life service will be held at 1:30PM on Saturday, April 9, 2022 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 13801 Fairview Dr, Burnsville, MN 55337. Seating for friends will begin at 1:00PM. Katie’s brother, Scott, will act as her urn bearer and Pastor Sandy Rothschiller will preside.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred and will be distributed by Katie’s family to her favorite charities.

On September 25, 1981 in Mason City, IA parents Ken and Connie celebrated the birth of their daughter, Katie Marie Lockrem. The second of their three children, Katie embraced all the attributes of being a “middle child.” Along with her siblings, Katie grew up in Thompson, IA where she excelled athletically and academically at school. Following her graduation from North Iowa High School in 2000, Katie continued her education at Hawkeye Community College and Minnesota State University in Mankato. She went on to earn her Masters of Education at Hamline University.

Working as a nanny sparked Katie’s desire for a career in education. Her ability to see the best in others made her classroom an inviting environment for the children at Raven Stream Elementary in New Prague. Katie’s students kept her on her toes especially during distance learning.

Katie invigorated others with her zest for life. She never turned down an opportunity for nachos, a meat raffle, BINGO, a party or special time with her nieces. Katie spent many hours working out at Mi5 Fitness where she was a founding and beloved member, continuing to work out even while undergoing chemo. No matter the activity, Katie focused on making memories with her family and friends. Together, they attended concerts, visited breweries, lounged in the hot tub, and traveled around the country. Summers at Happy Time Resort with family and friends created cherished memories for Katie. She welcomed every experience…especially if it meant she would have a good story to tell afterwards!

Katie lived life to the fullest even after her cancer diagnosis. With resiliency and determination Katie met cancer head on and continued to fight until the end. As a patient in the U of M cancer trial, she advanced research for the treatment of stomach cancer. Even in death, Katie’s spirit and passion for life continues through her gift of eye donation and the legacy she leaves with those she loves.

Katie is deeply missed by her parents, Kenneth and Connie Lockrem; sister, Jessica (Brad) Moeller, brother, Scott Lockrem (special friend Katie #2); nieces, Aubree, Brynlee, Delanie, and Tatum Moeller; French bulldog, Frankie; special medical team, Shannon, Jeff, Brendan, and Evie Lee, Krissy Aleman, Emily and Mike Ertel and their children, Caleb and Mason Ertel; aunts, uncles, cousins, dear friends and coworkers and students.

Katie is greeted in Heaven by her grandparents, Kelly & Frankie Scott and Kenneth & Pearl Lockrem; aunt, Beverly Legler, and uncle, Gary Lockrem.

Condolence from Amanda Anderson on April 5th, 2022 12:42 pm

Katie touched the hearts of so very many people. She is the sole reason our little girl fell back in love with school this year after effects of the pandemic and the struggle of distance learning for a kindergartner then first grader. Not only did Katie help her find joy in learning again, but our little girl is exceeding all of 2nd grades expectations! Katie was a bright light here on earth, and her legacy will live on forever.

Our youngest daughter had the great privilege of being assigned to Ms Lockrem’s classroom this year and she simply adored her teacher. Our youngest can be a bit of a handful at times – she has a very bold and sassy personality, but Katie loved her spirit and our daughter felt nothing but love from her teacher. She is so dearly missed.

Condolence from Sarah Miller on April 5th, 2022 6:29 pm

Katie, Although I personally met you through Mi-5, it was such a Coincidence that my first cousin was one of your very best friends, growing up in Thompson, Iowa. I remember thinking how beautiful you were when I first met you and how poise you were with your demeanor. You always seemed like the cool, calm and collective girl at the gym. Nothing bothered you and you were never afraid of a hard ass workout. You inspired me way more then you’ll ever know. There are a lot of people I’ve met in my life, but somehow you’ve left a lasting impression. You will be missed Immensely. I know in my heart the legacy you’ve left and how it will be honored for all the years to come. Heaven is a much better place with you there. And I will sleep better knowing you are free from pain now and watching down.

A Beautiful Lady, that when talking to her, one could not stop smiling. She
brought Life, a smile, and laughter into Any given situation. Truley One in
a Million. I’ve no answer as to why, but the Good Lord wanted her with the
host of other Angels to watch over her Family and Friends. Ken, Connie,
Jess, and Scott. You are all in my Prayers, and Heaven is most definitely
improved by Katie’s Presence.

Katie – You will be truly missed. All of those that you inspired are looking up to you and smiling for the kind person you were. Growing up in the Catholic Church with you, growing up in elementary, middle, and high school with you, and growing up with all the sports we played….the memories will always be there and won’t be forgotten. To all of the Lockrems – my thoughts and prayers go out to all of you

We are so sorry to hear this news, it’s been a tough week for our house too. Your daughter, Katie touched so many lives! Our daughter, Maelynn was introduced to her new 2nd grade teacher last August and was so excited to be back in school in person and full time! After ending kindergarten via Zoom, learning 1st grade hybrid style and back and forth with distance and in person class, she was thrilled to know school was back! Ms. Lockrem “wowed” her immediately and helped her gain back confidence, feel like part of a group again and made school FUN! We are so sorry for your loss but know that your daughter touched so many lives; so many more than you’ll ever know. Hugs to you and prayers for comfort in the coming days! ❤️

I am so sorry to hear about Ms. Lockrem. She was my second grade teacher 4 years ago, and she was a great teacher. I remember doing escape rooms in her class. She was one of my favorite teachers.

Sincerely,
Will Tietz
