John P. Legut, age 81, of Prior Lake, passed away on March 23, 2024.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, April 5, 2024, at 11:00 AM, with a visitation from 9:30-10:45 AM, at St. Michael Catholic Church (16400 Duluth Avenue SE) in Prior Lake. Father Tom Walker will preside, and John will be laid to rest at St. Michael Catholic Cemetery.

John was born to parents Joseph and Margaret Davis on August 30, 1942 in Minneapolis. He was the second child of four. Growing up he played in every sport he could be involved in. He graduated from South High and then attended the Minnesota School of Business.

John did accounting for several companies before becoming the manager of Minnesota Marble and Terrazzo Distribution Company. He managed most of the company by himself! Not too long after he started his professional career, he met his future wife Jan.

John and his wife Jan, who he would proudly share 60 years of marriage with, were married at St. Albert Church in Minneapolis. Several years later, they moved to Prior Lake, MN, with their children, Todd, Kim, Mark, and Michelle. As a family John loved to share cross country road trips and camping adventures with them. John also enjoyed coaching all his children’s sporting activities.

In his later years he became a grandpa and found a great love for it. Family and faith were the biggest aspects of his life and it truly showed. He loved to spend time up at his son’s cabin, have bbqs, play cribbage, and of course, golf with his buddies.

A true, honest and humble man who will be forever remembered by his wife, Jan Legut; children, Todd Legut, Kim Legut, Mark Legut, Michelle Brooks; 12 grandchildren, Ashley, Jordan, Jacob, Mario, Tony, James, Joey, Amanda, Joseph, Johnathon, Josh, Jessica; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Marge Davis, sisters-in-law, Joyce and Cherie, Theresa and Phyllis; and many other loving relatives and friends.

John is greeted in Heaven by his parents; brothers, Michael and David; brothers-in-law, Paul and Arlan; son-in-law, Jeff Brooks.

We got to know and love John’s gentle smile and sly sense of humor through the golf league at Ridges at Sand Creek. We know how much he loved to play Cribbage and he will be missed at that card table. We are sorry that we can’t make the service but we will keep him and all of you in our thoughts and prayers.

I will forever miss John. As my sisters husband I saw so much of him. When our families got together often and the kids would play and he had funny names for them. He had such a great sense of humor and kept us laughing. I will miss seeing him on his favorite toy-his tractor mower. He kept his yard immaculate. It was so hard to see him deteriorate with all his illnesses over these last years Rest in peace John, youve earned it.

John will be missed! I have countless memories with him. Many with his grandchildren Jordan and Jacob Legut. I worked very close to John’s work, we ate many many Cheetah Pizzas together, and he always had a sweet treat for us. I will never forget him, and of course when I see a box of whoppers I will for sure think of John and the many boxes we shared together. Rest in peace John, it’s never goodbye, I will see you later!
