So many fond memories . . .such a loss for all of us. We have a picture of the 4 Amigos (John, Simon, Bob and Ron) on their Mexican motorcycle adventure hanging in our office. Fond memories of motorcycling with John and Dora in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Our hearts are sad for all of you.

Condolence from Rickey & Connie Thielen on September 18th, 2021 10:07 pm

Connie and I want to express our deepest sympathies to Dora and to all of John’s family and friends. We got to know John when he and Dora wintered in Texas staying in Rockport. He was a long time member of the Corpus Christi HOG Chapter and we shared many motorcycle rides and meals together over the years. We always looked forward to their return each winter for the chance to spend time with John and Dora. John and Dora welcomed us into their house when we visited Prior Lake on one of our trips. We will miss our rides and visits together, his wit, his humor and most of all his sincere friendship. My heart aches with his passing.

I will be forever grateful to John for stepping up to help with the 1992 30-year reunion of St. Kevins graduates. I just went through the memorabilia of that event and found the speech he prepared and MC-ed for the event. He put together an amazing program that was enjoyed by all. I don’t remember much about him in our younger years, except that he was quiet and kind of shy especially around the girls. I am truly grateful to have been able to meet and work with John in our adult years. He was a genuinely kind, sincere and thoughtful person. May he rest in peace in the house of our God.

Condolence from Matthew Lupkes on September 22nd, 2021 10:16 am

I only got to know John through our professional relationship. He enjoyed a good laugh and had an infectious smile. I met him late in his life, and even after we no longer worked directly together, he still supported my professional growth. He often forwarded educational opportunities to me that he came across.
Our time together was short, but he left a lasting impression on me and I enjoyed him.
Rest in peace John. You were a good man and are missed.

Condolence from Jan Hertaus on September 24th, 2021 2:27 pm

Condolence from Bob Fitzgerald, Jr. on September 26th, 2021 6:50 pm

As a child I recall spending a summer at Uncle John’s Prior Lake house. He and Aunt Dora had recently purchased a waterfront house and stripped it to the studs. There was a lot to do and the project seemed overwhelming in my young eyes, but it was the perfect escape for a kid confused by the chaos at home. Uncle John was a supportive, understanding, generous and loving person who wasn’t afraid to extend a listening ear or give you the benefit of his own experience. He always seemed to have a smile on his face, as if he was ready with a funny story or silly joke. My memories of Fitzgerald Family picnics, Christmas Eve celebrations and family gatherings will always be remembered with his outsized presence. My deepest sympathies to Dora, Paula and John, Jr. You are all in my thoughts.

Condolence from C. J. Rome on September 27th, 2021 2:05 pm

I first met John several years ago when following their Fall migration to Rockport Texas, he joined our Wednesday Bible Group at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. In no time he was one of the group and brought his Irish wit and humor to our group as well as wisdom and insight into our bible studies. Spring time meant returning to Minnesota for the summer, so we only enjoyed his company for a few months each year. The Covid-19 pandemic arrived necessitating our meeting on Zoom so we all could communicate through out the year. We all will miss John very much and always marveled at how he fought his illness for so many years with grace and courage. Our sincerest condolences to Mrs. Fitzgerald and family. Sincerely, C.J.
