A life-long resident of Prior Lake, Jesse Dane Hailstone, age 33, passed away late Monday evening, June 9, 2014, from complications of cancer, while surrounded by his loving family. The family will greet guests on Friday, June 13, from 4-8 pm, at Ballard-Sunder Funeral and Cremation, 4565 Pleasant Street SE, Prior Lake and one hour prior to the service at church. A Christian Funeral will be on Saturday, June 14, at 11 am, St. John’s Lutheran Church, 119 Eighth Street West, Shakopee, MN. The Pastor Randall Romsdahl will preside. Jesse will be laid to rest at Spring Lake Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the Jesse Hailstone Memorial Fund, for his boys, at any Wells Fargo Bank.
In Litchfield, Illinois, Jesse was born on March 17, 1981, to loving and proud parents, Mark and Melody (Case) Hailstone. The oldest of three children, he was referred by his sisters, Laura and Gretchen, as the coolest brother ever. He was tough on the outside, but on the inside he was a caring and sensitive brother. His sisters remember Jesse and the neighborhood boys had great times, making jumps for their bikes and snowboards.
With a fond love for music, Jesse played trumpet, tuba and percussions for Prior Lake High School, where he graduated from in 1999. A quiet and private individual, Jesse would kick up his stage presence as a drummer and vocalist for Kivow, Hallaballoo, Shirts N’ Skins, and BFS. He loved to perform for everyone. Jesse also loved snowmobiling and sports. He always looked forward to playing third base on Friday nights with his softball team, The Uglies. Jesse also followed the Minnesota teams, Vikings, Twins and Wild. He enjoyed watching the Wheel of Fortune as a child with his Grandma Evelyn and later in life with his sons.
Jesse framed houses and installed hardwood floors, before expanding his horizon and wanting more out of life. He partnered with his dad for a while, in creating Prestige Custom Hardwood Floors, before venturing out on his own, as a business owner. Jesse loved the math aspect of the installation; it was like putting a puzzle together piece by piece.
What Jesse loved the most in life was being around his family and friends. It was what made him most happy. He was a beloved son and brother. An awesome and phenomenal dad to his two young boys, Donovan and Marshall, Jesse would do anything for his boys. He relished purchasing toys for them to play with, but really it was the toys he wanted to play with too. Whether it was for registering for video games on the baby registry or acquiring the complete set of Go! Go! Smart Wheels for “Marshall,” Jesse was always a kid at heart. But his heart belonged only to one beautiful girl, Jodi Holzemer, which he was to have married this month. Since the seventh grade, Jesse has always protected her and loved her unconditionally. If you ever had a chance to meet him, you were a friend for life.
Although Jesse was strong willed and stubborn, he had a caring, protective and loyal personality, with a great sense of humor. He was a kind, sweet, and big-hearted man. Left to honor and celebrate his life is his fiancée, Jodi Holzemer; sons, Donovan Hailstone and Marshall Hailstone; parents, Mark and Melody Hailstone; sisters: Laura (Robert) Kewatt, Gretchen Hailstone; niece, Evelyn Kewatt; grandparents, Ardell and Beverly Bothun; other loving relatives and devoted friends.
Preceded in death and there to welcome Jesse home is his grandparents, Evelyn and Carrol “Curly” Hailstone, Harvey David Case and Herbert Honey.
Pallbearers for Jesse will be his friends, Mike Wolfram, Shane Kville, Troy Graham, Jason Johnson, Kip Kirchberg, his cousin Josh Olberding and Uncle Michael Bothun

I was so surprised and saddened when I heard the news about Jesse… I met Jesse in 2005. We were in Hallaballoo together and had the awesome experience of touring out to te Gemini Festival in Oregon that summer together. He was one of my favorite guys in the band and always had time to sit and talk about anything and everything. He had such a big heart…. Even though I hadn’t seen in him in several years, I still consider him to be a friend and he will certainly be greatly missed. My sympathies to you, his family.
You are in our thought and prayers during this difficult time.
