Jeanette Marie Ella Busse

A resident of Prior Lake, Jeanette Marie Ella Busse, age 90, passed away peacefully, early Tuesday morning, June 3, 2014, at Friendship Manor Nursing Home, in Shakopee, Minnesota. The visitation will be Thursday, June 5 from 4-7:00 pm, at Ballard-Sunder Funeral Home, 4565 Pleasant Street SE, Prior Lake, MN and one hour prior to the service at church. The Celebration of Life Service will be Friday, June 6 at 11:00 am, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Prior Lake, MN. The Reverend John P. Vaughn will preside. Jeanette will be laid to rest next to her parents in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Prior Lake, MN.

Jeanette Marie Busse was born December 9, 1923, in Spring Lake Township, MN. Her parents were George and Otillia (Dorn) Busse. Jeanette is the middle of her family. There were 3 brothers and a sister born before her and 3 sisters after her. Jeanette’s oldest sister, Hazel and her youngest sister, Shirley are the remaining members of the family.

The family rented farms in Scott, Carver and Dakota counties, while she was growing up, meaning they moved a lot. Jeanette went to 5 different schools and graduated from the 8th grade. Growing up on a farm, she did everything to help. Herd and milk cows, husk corn, shock grain, put up hay, fill silo, gardened, canned for the winter months and helped butcher all types of animals; chicken, geese, turkeys and pigs.

In later years, Jeanette’s parents moved to Prior Lake, where she cared for them, as they aged. After George and Otillia’s passing, although she never married, Jeanette had “kids,” 24 nieces and nephews, all of whom she cared for at one time or another. Jeanette was known as ‘Aunt Nettie.’ She also babysat for a lot of other kids, as well.

Jeanette was very crafty. She crocheted (yarn and thread), tatted, quilted, made matchstick crosses for families, made miniature chairs and rockers from tin cans and many more things. Jeanette was known by all her family for turtle soup, homemade buns, making rootbeer and balloon wine.

Moving to Prior Manor in Prior Lake, Jeanette lived there for 7 years. She enjoyed all the activities, putting together puzzles and visiting with other residents in the building. Oh and don’t forget BINGO! Moving to Friendship Manor, she enjoyed it for all the same reasons. Jeanette considered it home and had lots of new friends.

Deeply missed and remembered always by those who loved Jeanette, sisters, Hazel Melby of Royalton, Shirley (Herman) Nelson of St, Paul; 24 nieces and nephews; relatives and devoted friends.

Jeanette is preceded in death her parents; brothers, Kenneth Busse, Elmer (Caroline) Busse, Delbert (Rosalia) Busse: sisters, Pearl Law, Phyllis (Harvey) Nelson; brothers-in-law, George Melby and Paul Neil.

Pallbearers are Brian Neil, Robert Neil, Darwin Nelson, Glenn Melby, Danial Nelson and David Nelson. Honorary Pallbearers Allen Busse, Kevin Busse, Ronald Nelson and Darrell Melby.
