On Wednesday, May 31, 2017, Janna M. Kunkel, was only 39 years old, when she left her beloved family’s side, due to some health conditions. She was a resident of Prior Lake, MN.

Janna’s life will be honored with a time of gathering on Sunday, June 4 starting at 2 pm, with closing words at 4 pm, all at Ballard-Sunder Funeral and Cremation 4565 Pleasant Street SE, Prior Lake, MN.

In Fargo, North Dakota, Theodore “Ted” and Jean (Weigel) Worner proudly announced the birth of their first child, Janna Marie, born on August 22, 1977. To her parents she was called “Pumpkin or Punky “for short. From her very first breath, she was bound to leave an imprint on lives she touched. Janna led an amazing life. But if you asked her, at a very young age, she truly relished being daddy’s little girl and wasn’t too impressed with the birth of her brother, Matt. With time, Janna extended her arms and welcomed a brother. The first 8 years of school, she was a master underachiever, with this all changing in high school. Janna became a straight A student and excelled in track and as a pitcher softball. She proudly graduated from Shanley High School, Fargo, ND in 1995.

Janna too excelled at the University of North Dakota, where she graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing. Janna spent most of her nursing career in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). She worked at Fairview Ridges in Burnsville, Children’s Hospital in Denver and currently at Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis. Janna loved the fast pace action and the challenges of the unit. She was an educator for the new nurses and the doctors too respected Janna’s experience and expertise.

Through mutual friends, Janna met the love of her life, Joshua Alan Kunkel, while attending the college. They immediately hit it off. On June 24, 2000, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Fargo, ND. Janna and Josh exchanged wedding vows. They were blessed with two precious sons, Jacob and Jonah. Being a wife and mother were most important in her life. Janna had such an influence on the boy’s life, by guiding and teaching them values and goals. Josh, Jacob and Jonah loved sports and knew this was their passion and took an interest in sports as well. Sunday afternoons were filled with watching football, eating popcorn and drinking lemonade. As a family, they enjoyed visiting Disney World, hiking, fishing, and going to the family cabins at Farm Island and Pelican Lake. Janna loved being the only girl in the house, for the boys loved to pamper her making Janna feel like a princess. She and Josh were fortunate to travel several times to Hawaii, her favorite designation.

Janna had this wonderful personality! She was always thirsty for knowledge and would excel at what she learned. Janna had this unique ability to read people and understand the motive behind the person. Yes, she did have a competitive side to her too. Especially when it came to beating Josh in cards and fishing. Janna was a perfectionist and wanted things in order, which led her to achieve more in life. Self-confident and caring, Janna loved unconditionally.

Forever missed and forever loved, Janna will be greatly missed by husband, Josh; sons, Jacob and Jonah; parents, Ted and Jean Worner; brother, Matt Worner; grandmother, Betty Worner; many relatives and friends.

There to welcome Janna home in heaven are grandparents, Bill Worner, John and Hilda Weigel.

Condolence from Nancy Rivers on June 2nd, 2017 1:25 pm

I am so sorry for your loss. Janna was a sharp nurse who took such good care of her patients. She was so proud of her husband and children. She used to bring her boys into work. What great kids! She had an adventurous spirit and uncanny knack of getting the greatest vacation deals. She had a good sense of humor and had little Janna-isms . Janna had a strong spirit and I’m sure she fought a valiant fight. I feel she is resting now in the tender arms of our Almighty God. My heart goes out to the Janna’s family and loved ones. I will be praying for you.
