Harriet J. Fredrickson, age 93, of Prior Lake, MN, passed peacefully on Sunday, August 3, 2020, at her daughter’s home, in Prior Lake.

A visitation honoring Harriet will be held on Thursday, August 6, from 10-10:45 am, with a Celebration of Life at 11 am, at Ballard-Sunder Funeral and Cremation, 4565 Pleasant Street SE, Prior Lake, MN. Pastor Diana Hunstad will preside.

Harriet Joyce was born on December 21, 1926, in Minneapolis, MN, to Arthur and Josephine (Hough) Hazelton. She grew up in North Minneapolis and was the youngest of nine children. Being the youngest, her siblings took great care of her and would often say Harriet was a bit spoiled. Family was always important. She relished getting together with her cousins, aunts, and uncles. Harriet was a gifted artist, which was a family trait. Her first drawings where that of a black pencil and took on a new dimension when Harriet’s older sister bought her colored pencils.

Life was enriched for Harriet meeting a young man, Alden G. Fredrickson, as she rode the streetcar. He was a bit persistent at first, but through this persistence the love story began. On September 25, 1943, in Minneapolis, MN, Harriet and Aldy were married. They were blessed with five children, Donna, Carol, James, Gary, and Jayne. Unfortunately, Jayne was born with physical and mental challenges, which always weighed heavy on Harriet’s heart.

As a family, they enjoyed vacationing around Minnesota, with their favorite destination of the North Shore. The Hazelton family also enjoyed visiting cabins throughout the state and spending time together fishing. As a couple, Harriet and Aldy loved traveling the United States. They made such a wonderful pair and complimented each other. In January of 2012, she lost the love of her life of 69 years of marriage. Harriet was proud becoming a grandma, great grandma and even a great great grandma. She loved them all, especially the babies.

Harriet was most content at home. She could not wait for her husband and children to arrive home, from school or work, just to be together again. This contentment continued throughout life. Harriet’s love for art continued and was excited to see this gift in the next generations. She loved to journal, with many entries contained memories and events being with family. Harriet’s favorite time of the year was being surrounded by family at Christmas. She spent countless and countless hours researching the family’s genealogy. Harriet was so proud of her heritage. She prided herself to be able to name all the presidents in order and the state capitals. Over the years, Harriet’s health deteriorated, and her pride was taken with being diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia.

Harriet will remain in the hearts of those she loved the most by children, Donna (Dave) Haugan, Carol Huston, James (Karen) Fredrickson, Gary Fredrickson, Jayne Fredrickson; 12 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Greeting Harriet home in Heaven is her husband, Aldy; parents, Arthur and Josephine Hazelton; siblings, Mildred, Mabel, Elinor, Clarice, Florence, Elsie, Donald and Clarence.
