Gerardo Fernandez

Gerardo “Chino” Fernandez, age 29 of Burnsville, MN passed away on Sunday, January 30, 2022.

A public visitation will be held from 12noon-3PM with a private family service at 3PM all at Ballard-Sunder Funeral Home, 833 S Marschall Rd., Shakopee. Per the family’s requests masks are required.

On April 25, 1992 in Los Angeles, CA parents Felipe Fernandez and Cruz Barillas celebrated the birth of their only son Gerardo Felipe Fernandez. In 1997, the family settled in Chaska, MN where Chino attended school. From a young age, Chino never took anything too seriously. He was a jokester and always ready to make others laugh.

Through mutual friends, Chino was introduced to Karla Hernandez, and they were blessed with three girls. A cheerful and loving man, Chino was devoted to his daughters—they were his whole world! Together they enjoyed watching movies and swimming. Chino especially loved taking his girls to Grand Slam in Burnsville. Not only was Chino a loving father, but he was also the quintessential “fun uncle” to Alynae and David. He loved and respected his whole family deeply.

Throughout his life, Chino was generous with his time. He made friends easily and enjoyed socializing. Along with friends, Chino loved cheering on his favorite team, the San Francisco 49ers, and the Minnesota Vikings. He also enjoyed visiting Mystic Lake and exercising in his free time. Chino’s easy-going, charismatic personality will be remembered forever by those who love him.

Chino is deeply missed by his mother, Cruz Barillas; children, Gia, Jaylah, and Jezebel Hernandez and their mother, Karla; sister, Lupita Fernandez; niece, Alynae; nephew, David; grandmother, Guadalupe Fernandez; aunts and uncle, Edgar (Ana) Barillas, Elvira Rocha; cousins, Hillary Barillas, Jeffrey Barillas, Christopher Fernandez, William Fernandez; other loving relatives and friends.

Chino is reunited in Heaven with his father, Felipe Fernandez; sister, Ulda Barillas; and his grandparents.
