Erma Lois Hanson

Erma was 80 years old, when she passed away peacefully in the presence of her family, the late morning of Monday, November 26, 2012, at her home in Prior Lake. The visitation will be held on Thursday, November 29 from 4-7 pm and one hour prior to the Celebration of Life Service on Friday, November 30 at 11 am all at Ballard-Sunder Funeral and Cremation 4565 Pleasant Street SE, Prior Lake, MN. Jean Breeggemann will be the Funeral Celebrant. Erma will be laid to rest next to her husband at Pleasant View Memorial Gardens in Burnsville, MN.

On Friday, January 29, 1932 in Bristol, South Dakota, Erma Lois was born to parents of William and Clara (Griswold) Cox. One of eight children, she grew up attending school in Bristol. Erma married Verlyn A. Hanson on September 4, 1949 in Bristol, South Dakota.

A love for the outdoors, Erma spent many happy hours tending to her beautiful flower beds and yard. She enjoyed watching and feeding the beautiful birds in her yard. Erma treasured slow pontoon rides and loved the lake and all it provided for wildlife. Animals always had a special soft spot in her heart, especially Yorkies. Later on is Erma’s life they were her faithful companions. She loved to read biographies, of all types, especially of historical and political figures. A great interest in national and state politics, Erma liked shopping with friends and eating out too. For decades, Erma and husband were the owner/operators of Hanson’s Ranch in Shakopee. The biggest passion in Erma’s life was the loved of family and spent time with them every chance she got.

Truly missed and loved by sons, Terry (Lori Haugen) Hanson of Carver, Mark (Todd Rethke) Hanson of Minneapolis; daughter, Roni (Paul) Hendrickson of Azel, TX; grandchildren, Tina (Donnie) Furlong, Sarah (Alex) Campos, Elizabeth (Robert) Costa, Scott Hanson; great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Emily, Chase, Patrick and Jessica; brother, Jerry Cox; sisters-in-law, Maria Cox, Martha Cox, Darlene Cox; other relatives and friends.

Erma is presented in death by daughter, Vickie; parents; siblings, Wilma (Dayton) Peterson, Bud Cox, Roland Cox, Arlene (Curtis) Rydjord, Donald (Arlene) Cox and Derry Cox; and sister-in-law, Phyllis Cox.

Pallbearers for Erma will be her family Terry, Mark, Paul, Donnie, Allen and Patrick.

The Hanson family is served with honor, care and compassion from Ballard-Sunder Funeral and Cremation Services, Prior Lake Chapel.
