Dolores “Dee” Marie Kober (Schmitz), age 91, of Jordan, MN, gently passed away Christmas Eve, 12/24/23. She was the center of the wheel for many, the source of celebration, laughter, hugs, kisses, and nourishment. Beloved wife, mother, grandma, great-grandma, relative and friend.

Dee was born in St. Brieux, Saskatchewan, Canada. Moved to MN in 1955. Met Henry – marrying in 1956. Spending the ensuing years in the Minneapolis and Excelsior area, moving to Jordan in 1974. Dee loved to entertain, laugh, listen to music that had swing, dance and have fun…a lot of fun! Dee had a beautiful creative mind by sharing her culinary, musical, and artistic gifts. Loved antiquing & thrift shopping.

Speedskating was Dee’s sport. Stating “I loved to beat the boys” while growing up in Spruce Grove, Alberta. It was a joy watching her glide across the ice on Lotus Lake.

Christmas was her season! Beautifully entertaining & decorating our home. Worked at Schumacher’s Hotel gift shop, but also decorated the entire hotel which was featured in Better Homes and Gardens magazine.

Dee taught tole painting in Jordan Community Ed. from ’78-’84. Lovingly known as “Grandma Dee” to students and staff working as a Para for Jordan Elem. School, retiring in 2017. At the time, the oldest city employee.

Preceded in death by parents, Marie & Peter Schmitz; brother, Leo, and many other dear family members and friends.

Dee is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Henry. Four children: Richard; Mark (Carrie); Kerry (Mel); Jim (Jeff); 7 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Gen Weber and brothers, Ray and Bob Schmitz. Also survived by dear relatives and friends.

A Celebration of Dee’s Life will be held Saturday, February 10, 2024, from Noon – 3:00 PM with closing prayers by Fr. Michael Miller at 3:00 PM at Ballard-Sunder Funeral & Cremation, 104 1st St W, Jordan, MN 55352, 952-492-2818. Dee will be laid to rest at Fort Snelling National Cemetery at a later date.

“Let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace.”

I’m sorry for the loss of your mother. Praying for comfort during this difficult time. I’ll never forget the first time I met her; she handed me an antique teacup right off her shelf without even knowing I’m a collector. I still have that teacup displayed in my curio cabinet. She was a very special woman.

Dee you accepted me as part of the Kober clan the first time we met; greeting me with a smile and a big hug. I loved making you laugh with my off-color jokes. Dancing with you was always so much fun. When you called me your fourth son, I always smiled, knowing I was the lucky one. Rest in peace sweet lady. I love you.

Auntie Dee made a big impression on me as a kid.
I thought she was so cool! She wore halter tops with her denim shorts. She entertained everyone who came to visit. I remember the lake and the screened in little house where we ,the kids, slept in sleeping bags and giggled the whole time.
Auntie Dee taught me how to bake her famous bread. And Anyone who wanted to learn. She taught me my first dirty joke!
She was a woman who embraced who she was. And that kind, creative, loving spirit made me , her Godchild, feel like I was special. And I believe that is true for all the people in her life.
I love you my Auntie Dee. And I will always hold these memories close to my heart ❤️

Her lively loving spirit / That graced us in this Earthly life / Lives on / Could it be a tiny bright new point of light / Skating in the sky / Newly noted / On the two thousand twenty-third Christmas Night / Could it be / Look in the dark sky high above Saskatchewan / Maybe you will see it / It was a good thing / Having her for a mother / Wasn’t it
