Richard “Dick” Schultz, of Prior Lake, passed away May 23, 2019 at the age of 75. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at Ballard-Sunder Funeral & Cremation (4565 Pleasant St. SE) in Prior Lake. Mass of Christian Burial is Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at 11:00 AM with visitation one-hour prior at St. Michael Catholic Church (16400 Duluth Ave. SE) in Prior Lake. Father Tom Walker will preside. Dick will be laid to rest at Pleasant View Memorial Gardens in Burnsville.
On February 4, 1944, Richard & Irene (Dietz) Schultz welcomed their first child into the world. Dick was the oldest of five children. He loved growing up in Bloomington with his siblings, Sandra, Tom, Cathy & Terry.
The Schultz family lived near the Met Stadium, and Dick began working for the MN Twins. He also worked with his father. Throughout his whole life, Dick loved working. He had a strong work ethic and loved every day on the job.
As a young man, Dick met Mary Nord at a river trip. They fell in love, and Dick & Mary exchanged wedding vows on January 26, 1968. Their marriage was blessed with two wonderful children, Katie & David.
They moved to Prior Lake to raise their family. They were very involved in the community and at church. Dick coached football and was at all his kids’ events.
In 1968, Dick started his own company called, Superior Trucking. As an independent truck owner, Dick worked with Fabcon for decades. He was known for his strong work ethic and generous nature.
Dick’s favorite thing was spending time with his family. Having children was a thrill for Dick & Mary, but their grandkids were even better. John, Maggie & Kevin were the light of Dick’s life, and he absolutely adored them. There was no end to Dick’s generosity when it came to his grandkids.
Dick was also a very generous and loyal friend. You could always count on Dick. He made many friends through work, church, his neighborhood and the Windmill Café. He ate breakfast there every morning and got to know all the staff and the other regulars.
About eight months ago, Dick was diagnosed with advanced stage four lung cancer. Dick received excellent care from his doctors and the entire staff at the Presbyterian Home in Bloomington. He was surrounded by his family the last days of his life. Dick will be remembered always for his generosity and fun-loving spirit.
He will be deeply missed by his wife, Mary Schultz; daughter, Katie (Tom) Draeger; grandchildren, John Draeger, Maggie (fiancé, David Bates) Draeger, Kevin (Anna) Draeger; siblings, Sandra Benolkin, Tom (Nita) Schultz, Cathy (Tom) Alves, Terry (Becky) Schultz; numerous nieces & nephews; other loving relatives and many dear friends. Dick was greeted in Heaven by his son, David Schultz; parents, Dick & Irene Schultz; brother-in-law, Dave Benolkin.

So sorry for your loss!
I have sweet memories of Dick when we lived across the street on Faricy Lane. Dick was such a sweetheart for taking my 2year old son for a ride in his “BIG TRUCK”. He would listen for Dick to get home so he could see the truck. Great neighbors.
Hold memories in your heart and know that he was loved by many.

I am so sorry to hear about Dick. I’m sending love, prayers, and wishes of comfort to all of you. He always impressed me being such a family man. I can only imagine the wonderful meeting between David & him.

Mary, I want to send you and your family love . Dick was the best. My memories go way back to school days with Dick, Sandy and you. We had our babies around the same time. I have a picture of Chris and Katie as tiny babies laying on a blanket on the floor. Dick had the best smile and laughed so easily. If he could help he would immediately. What wonderful memories your grandkids will cherish forever. May your memories and family love help you through this sad time. Dick will be forever missed.
Dick was a kind, hard working, loving man and will be sorely missed by all at Fabcon. He will live on through all our wonderful memories of him. Peace be with the Schultz family during this difficult time.

Dick was an amazing hard working man. I spent many of my work breaks watching him and Katie delivering product to Fabcon. He was always interested in what my children were up to. He even (sneakily) paid my lunch tab at the Windmill Café a few times. I am so very sorry for your loss and hope that you find comfort during this time.

So sorry to hear this. I’m sure David will be waiting with open arms. I will always remember that big laugh when I used to come over as a child. And he was my first football coach. I love you all and will pray for you.

Sorry to hear about Dick. Many fond memories from the Windmill, and a few from Wampachs too. Dick certainly brightened up the day.
My heartfelt sympathies go out to the family and friends. May you find some comfort in the promise found in Revelation 21: 3-4 and 1 Thessalonians 4:14. Knowing that there is an opportunity to be reunited with loved ones.

So very sad when I read of Dick’s passing in the paper today Always admired “Skip” he was just such a great guy! I have great memories of him at the Dietz’s house near our cabin by Pixie Point. Please know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers and may your memories with him help you through this difficult time.
I’m so sorry to hear of the passing of Dick. I always enjoyed our conversations at his grandkids sporting events for Waterville -Elysian. He had what I called a “Radio announcer voice “, it pronounced authority, confidence and positivity and always made me feel that we were in the game no matter what the score was. I’m glad my family and I got to know him, he will be missed by all.
