David “Barney” Wormer, age 60, of Prior Lake, MN, passed away unexpectedly, at his home on Monday, January 27, 2020.

A time of gathering will be held on Friday, February 7, starting at 4 PM, with sharing time at 6:30 PM, at Ballard-Sunder Funeral and Cremation, 4565 Pleasant Street SE, Prior Lake, followed by a gathering honoring Barney’s life at the Prime Time Bar and Grill, 20565 Langford Way, Jordan . A private family interment will be held on Saturday, February 8, at Spirit Hill Cemetery, Jordan, MN. Urn bearers will be his godchildren, John Dillon and Katie DeRosia.

David William was born July 31, 1959, in New Prague, son of Waldemar and Dorothy (Tesch) Wormer of rural Jordan. He attended Lydia Elementary and Jordan Schools, graduating from Jordan High School in 1977. After high school, Barney continued to farm on the family farm in Spring Lake Township. After the farm was sold, he worked for Sun Country Airlines, as well as assisting neighbors and friends with farming. At the time of his death, Barney was employed by Butch Ames of Ames Farms.

Barney enjoyed his “Bump and Run” trips to various Sun Country destinations with family or friends. Regardless of where he went, someone knew Barney or became a new friend. It would not be unlike Barney to show up in your yard and have a “short” visit and catch up on the Lydia news. Barney enjoyed a good game of Euchre including teaching his nephews and nieces the tricks of the game. Barney was a people person. Till the end, he stayed true to his farming roots. Barney will be missed by family and friends.

Barney is survived by sisters and brothers, Char (Tom) Voigt, Doug, Debbie, Connie (David) Dillon, Wayne, and Dan (Linda); nephews and nieces, Willi (Sara) Wormer and their children, Rayne, Payton, Jeff (Dani) Voigt, and their children Sadie and Mia, Paul (Loli) Dillon, Katie (Godchild) (Josh) DeRosia and their children TJ and Tyson, Elizabeth (Dusty) Julius and their children Lauren, Henry, Leah and Howie, Matt Wormer, John Dillon (Godchild), Jacob Wormer, Rachel Wormer; other relatives and friends.

Barney was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials are preferred and will be distributed in Barney’s memory to help underprivilege children in needs of dentistry.

Barney’s family wishes to thank everyone for their kind expressions of sympathy.

Condolence from Tim Ostigaard on January 30th, 2020 7:25 am

My heart is crushed! I have great memories as a kid hanging out with Barney on his family’s dairy farm which was a short distance down the road from my house. The entire Wormer family always made me feel very welcome and there were always hardy German meals at the table. I was amazed at how hard the entire family worked to keep the family farm going strong. Barney taught me how to ride calves in the calf pen. I remember riding them until we were worn out so then we moved on to try riding the pigs! We also helped cull the mice population with our trusty BB guns. I moved away from Jordan at a young age but I always enjoyed catching up with Barney when I came back to visit. Barney is now exploring the other side. I look forward to catching up with Barney in Heaven. I’m sure he has a few things to show me when I get there! Barney will be sorely missed. May God comfort his family during this difficult time.

Condolence from Debbie (Oldenburg) Taylor on February 6th, 2020 5:57 pm

With deepest sympathy to the Wormer family on the passing of “Barney.” I’m a 1977 classmate and part of the Lydia gang and remember him from our school days. I have passed the old homestead on Hwy 13 many times on my visits back to Minnesota. I called my parents to let them know and they told me that Barney used to work for Butch Ames Construction and it was Barney who planted my dad’s 80 acres way back when. My dad also enjoyed Barney’s company at the Lydia bar a time or two. We are saddened yet joyful that he is with our heavenly father in heaven.
