Darlene Weatherman, age 69, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Monday, May 6, 2019. A celebration of her life will be held at 3PM on Friday, May 10, 2019 with a visitation 2 hours prior, all located at Ballard-Sunder Funeral Home, 833 S. Marschall Rd., Shakopee. Pastor Aaron Davitch will preside.

In Fort Frances, Ontario, parents Charles and Katherine (Lagerstrom) Bartush celebrated the birth of their daughter Darlene on August 29, 1949. The family lived in Ontario and Texas. Times weren’t always easy, especially after the death of her father, but upon returning to Minnesota to be near her mother’s family, she developed deep familial bonds that lasted her lifetime.

Following her 1968 graduation from Kennedy High School in Bloomington, Darlene began working at Northwest Airlines (NWA). What began as a simple job, turned into a 30-plus year career. By the time she retired, Darlene was an instructor of agents for NWA.

Through work, Darlene traveled near and far— Asia, Europe, and throughout North America. She especially enjoyed shopping in Seoul, Korea. Later in life, Darlene wintered in Bonita Springs, Florida and made many trips to visit family throughout the US and Canada.

Darlene’s life was enriched when she met Dennis Weatherman. In September 2005, they exchanged wedding vows at the Venetian in Las Vegas. This union blessed Darlene with much more than a companion. It gave her a larger family, and she lovingly took on the role of being a mother and grandmother.

Family meant the world to Darlene! She was affectionately considered the “cool aunt” and truly spoiled her nieces and nephews. This kindness extended to her grandchildren as well. Darlene always planned fun activities for them. If they ever wanted something, they knew to ask grandma. Since moving to Savage, Darlene looked forward to sleepovers with her grandkids.

In her free time, Darlene enjoyed gardening, canning the fruits of her labor, and birdwatching. An artistic person, Darlene was an award-winning porcelain dollmaker.

Wherever Darlene and Denny went, they made friends. If someone had a dog with them, Darlene was sure to talk with them. As an animal lover, she knew all her neighborhood dogs by name. Along with Denny, she enjoyed getting together with friends, having drinks, and spending countless hours at their home on Upper Turtle Lake.

Darlene was a fun-loving, generous woman who cared deeply for her family, friends, coworkers, and community. She is loved and missed by her stepsons, Chad (Lacey) Weatherman, Mark (Natalie) Weatherman; grandchildren, Cameron, Cierra, Claire, and Evelyn; siblings, Gwenn (Ben) Boldt, Louise (Mark) Nelson, John (Monica) Boileau, Richard (Patti) Boileau, Wes (Lisa) Boileau, James (Susan) Boileau; sister-in-law, Lynda Bartush; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Darlene is greeted in Heaven by her Lord and Savior; her husband, Dennis; brother, Butch Bartush; mother, Katherine; father, Charles, and step-father, Louis Boileau.

Arrangements with Ballard-Sunder Funeral Home, Shakopee.
