Calvin James Wartnick, age 24, of Savage, MN, passed away on September 3, 2023. A Time of Gathering will be held from 9:00 – 11:00 AM on Friday, September 8, 2023 with brief closing words at 11:00 AM at Ballard-Sunder Funeral & Cremation, 4565 Pleasant St SE, Prior Lake, MN. Lunch will be served following services from 11:15 AM-1:30 PM at 20815 Prairie Hills Lane, Prior Lake (Last house on street). Interment at 2:30 PM at St. Mary’s Cemetery, North St. Paul.

Calvin will be greatly missed by his loving parents, Jim and Michelle Wartnick; sister, Ann Wartnick; grandparents, Jerry Allen, Norm and Babe Wartnick; other loving family and friends.

He is preceded by his grandma, Ann Allen.

Calvin was diagnosed with Autism and a learning disability at the age of 3. At the time, the doctors offered low expectations regarding his future. Calvin surpassed everyone’s expectations – being able to do what most others could – drive at 16, graduating high school, completing 2 years of college, obtaining some close friends, working, living independently for a short while, and enjoying life as best he could.

Calvin struggled throughout the years, including chronic abdomen pain which he continuously battled. Because of his strong support system including his friends and family, Calvin continued to fight even though at times he wanted to give up. Calvin loved to fish, eat pizza and cookies/brownies, and spend time outdoors. He enjoyed nightly walks, and bonfires when the weather cooperated. Being at the lake and/or cabin was a big part of Calvin. He was a hard worker, never complained, was meticulously clean, and would always offer a helping hand. If you ever had a question regarding medications, Calvin was your guy, seeming to know more than most pharmacists.

He was a great guy and a beloved son and brother. Taken away much too young, he will be sorely missed. Our hearts ache for our dearest son. We hope he has finally found peace, pain-free.

Love mom, dad, and Ann
