On Ellsworth AFB, in Rapids City, SD, Barbara Ellen was born on September 30, 1962, to Leonard Curtis and Sharon (Wilson) Jenkins. She was the second child of this U.S. Navy family and spent her early years in Buffalo, SD, San Diego, CA and Guam. In the Marianas Islands, Barb and her brother, Bill were joined by a sister, Debora. She started school in San Diego, then the family was transferred to North Chicago, IL, Great Lakes Naval Station, where they spent four years. Barb attended middle school in Charleston, SC. After her father retired in 1975, the family moved back to Buffalo, SD, where Barb graduated from high school as the Salutatorian of her class. An intelligent woman, she earned bachelor’s degrees in English, Mass Communications, Photography and Theater at the University of South Dakota, in Vermillion, SD.

Barb worked various positions at first, with spending many years as a Director of Hotel Sales and Marketing, in Richfield and Bloomington, MN. Wanting a different path in life, she focused on her true passion…farming. Barb started a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) business. She turned her focus on high power gardening and the land on the farm. Barb spent countless hours tending to her 33,000 square foot garden.

Life was enriched for Barb meeting Randy Jon Everson. She was moving out of her house in South Dakota, as he was moving in. A conversation began and they spent the next several years dating, until they went their sperate ways. In 1994, Barb and Randy’s path crossed again and on May 26, 1996, in Hastings, MN, they wedded. Barb and Randy eventually purchased a hobby farm in Winthrop, where she felt most at home. Barb always had a special love for animals and now she could surround herself with them. Barb found great joy in caring for her miniature horses, chickens, sheep, donkey, ducks, turkeys, and cats. These animals gave her purpose and motivation in life.

Barb was a multifaceted woman. She was also gifted musician, dancer, and costume creator. For nearly 40 years, these traits were highlighted as Barb performed at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival. Through the years, she managed the Irish Cottage, worked in the Viking Encampment, the Feast of Fantasy and performed as a musician. She performed with several Celtic dance ensembles and served on the board of directors for Clann Tartan. Barb also shared this love with Randy, as they both performed as professional musicians.

Barb will remain in the hearts who loved her the most, husband, Randy; mother, Sharon Jenkins; brother, Bill (Gabi) Jenkins; sister, Debora (Bob)Weinert; nieces and nephews, Frederik Jenkins, Philipp Jenkins, Josephine Jenkins, Allison Ford; other relatives and many friends.

Welcoming Barb home is her father Leonard and grandparents.

I will miss her generous spirit. I used to refer to Barb as my walking lyric encyclopedia. She was happy to join in the most obscure song – and she always knew another verse. Her memory is embedded in every set. May we take her lessons in generosity and pay them forward. Peace be with her.

Barb was more that just a musician at the Renaissance Festival. She was one half of the Troll Shenanigans Pub Sing for 13 years, delighting the audiences with her sassy stories, beautiful voice, and mandolin playing (capoed on two). She had a heart as big as the Festival grounds, and loved everyone who trod its lanes. Barb was a very special person, and such a hard worker. I hope she is at rest now.
