Barbara (Barbie) Cook, Age 43, passed away on 10/30/22, after a long battle with breast cancer.
Barbara was born on April 17, 1979 in Ohio. She was adopted to the Claire family when she was 8 years old. She lived in many places throughout her life from Alaska to Guam, eventually settling in Minnesota. Her favorite and most important job was being a mom to her son Hunter. She wore several career hats throughout her life, most recently as a truck driver, before that a prior authorization representative at Express Scripts, and prior to that was a baker.
When Barbara was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer, she retired. During retirement, she had many hobbies. Her favorite hobbies were painting, clay art, drawing, riding her Harley, Notre Dame football, Green Bay Packers, cooking, and traveling. She also would tell anyone she met to get a breast examination, don’t wait. Her laugh and smile would light up anyone’s day.
Barbie leaves behind her son, Hunter and life partner Jennifer Murphy. She met Jen in 2008 and they deeply loved each other until the end. She is also survived by her mom, Marion Clare, many brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, and beloved friends.

I first met Barb 9 years ago on my initial visit to meet my Lil Brother Hunter in the BBBS program. From the very moment I met them two things were obvious. Barb gave all of herself to Hunter and did everything she could to give him the best life he could have Also that this was going to be a family to me.

Though a vast majority of the time I was spending time with Hunter in a way a child is an extension of the parenting they receive. I would get to talk to Barb from time to time but I was also learning who she was from him.

When Barb got her diagnosis it came at a time when my Aunt also got a similar diagnosis and I knew Barb would fight to continue to be a mom and be a role model for her son. As a mentor your never truly a parent but supposed to be more of a friend to a little. It’s just hard to not feel like your a parent in cases when you might be all they have. I know that Hunter is in a good place now as Barb would never give up until she knew he was ok.

I’m very saddened to know Barbara is gone from this earth BUT rejoice in her being with her Savior. She fought the good fight for as many years as I knew her. We met in the single moms group at Wooddale Church where I was the facilitator. Always a smile and a positive word – that was how I will always remember her.
