WEB Alvin Dahn

Al Dahn, Jr, was only 42 years old, when he passed away unexpectedly on Friday, November 13, 2015 at his home in Shakopee, MN. A son, brother, uncle and friend too many, Al will always be remembered for his huge smile and being very generous with his time. Al was a bit of a dare devil and found himself at times in some mischief. But through it all, he lived life to the fullest.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, November 21, at 3 pm, with a time of gathering starting at 1 pm, all at Ballard-Sunder Funeral Home 833 South Marschall Road, Shakopee, MN. Pastor Pat Simmons will preside and Al’s cousin, Paula David will be the urn bearer. He will be laid to rest up north at his Uncle Bob’s place, where Al enjoyed spending time.

On September 15, 1973 in Farmington, MN, Alvin Earl was born the fourth of five children to parents, Alvin Sr. and Jeanne (David) Dahn. Growing up in Shakopee, he began a lifelong love for the outdoors. As a very young boy, Al would ride his bike several miles to go fishing to Lake O’Dowds. Al would return home to skin the bull heads he just caught. Al also took an interest in hunting rabbits, ducks and geese. He had a special knack of cooking breakfast for his siblings. Al’s specialty was French toast and occasionally would need to make syrup from scratch. He graduated from Shakopee High School in 1992.

After graduation, Al began working for United Mailing in the factory. He later worked for Progressive Systems as a machine builder. He was fortunate to travel a lot for the company installing machines. Al would always remember his family and brought something special back for them. Most of Al’s career was as a truck driver for Art Johnson Trucking, Klingberg Trucking and currently for Duke Aerial Inc.

Al spent every possible minute enjoying the outdoors. He spent countless hours helping with the farming duties on the Choudek farm and on Uncle Bob’s farm. Al relished the times spent at Uncle Bob’s place fishing in the river and working with the cattle. He loved to kick up dirt with the 4 Wheelers and enjoyed the snow on a snowmobile. Al found joy working on race cars with brother-in-law, Russ and ice fishing with friends. Even this past season, he enjoyed deer hunting with family and friends. But the ultimate desire was riding his Harley. Al took great pleasure in feeling free on the bike. He enjoyed the experience of Sturgis and taking excursions to Wisconsin. But Al was the most content and at peace living in his home in the woods.

Left to honor Al’s life and mourn the death is his mother, Jeanne (Tony Hagen) Marnoff; dad, Al Dahn Sr.; siblings, Barb (John Sorah) Dahn, Brian Dahn, Jenny (Russ) Berg, Sue Dahn; special sisters, Laurie Hagen Anderson, Danielle Hagen Buxbaum; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends

Preceded in death and there to welcome Al home in heaven are his grandparents and other family.

My brother…. I will never understand. All I know is that my heart aches for you. I wish so many things. I cannot believe you are gone. I know we had some rough times and didn’t always get along or care to be around each other but you are my blood. A part of me will be broken forever. Miss you so much already. Please keep watch over us and hug my bestie. Teach her how to play cribbage but don’t steal her points. Love, Suz

Al was someone who helped me to learn to love myself again. He helped me through a very dark part of my life, a time when I didn’t care if I lived or died. He was honest and straight up with me. I saw him in May, invited him to my wedding, he was going to come but the invite burned in his truck fire. He had text me that day for directions but I didn’t receive it till the next day due to poor reception. In September I was at the Ren-fest, was going to stop by to see him but ran out of time. Just two weeks ago I was thinking about him….. I should’ve taken advantage of all of those times. I wish I could tell him how much he impacted my life just one more time! I will never forget him & will miss him greatly!!!!!
Love you Al!
Susan

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. Al was always so helpful with my volleyball. For 10 years he would lay the sand down at the Eagles, and then the next day he would push it back up. I will miss his smile and his laugh. Ride on Al for eternity.

Al, I didn’t know your family, but my heart aches for them. We’ve all lost a great guy. I’m gonna miss you stoppin by on the sled during a snowstorm for breakfast, or coming to take me for a ride on the bike or just to B.S. Everytime I open my blinds in my office, I will think of you, as you’re the one who came by right after work and hung them up for me. I can’t believe our last texts will REALLY be the last texts. I will forever save them on my phone. You are loved and you will be missed.
My hope is your family can get through this aweful ordeal and find peace. God Bless you all.

My condolences to my my aunt, uncles, and cousins. Cherish the memories of Jr., and those left around us. His time here with us was too short. I hope he doesn’t wreck the chicken before I get to ride it in the eternal sunshine.

Rest in peace, Al.

Jeff- I am sure Grandma, Grandpa and & Auntie Linda will be watching over him up there. No doubt that any play on the chicken will be supervised. :o) He may just give Grandpa a run for his money playing cards though. Love, Susie <3
