Dear Joy,
I saw Wayne’s obituary in the Trib this morning and was saddened to read of his passing. The two of you just fit together! I am sure your family is filled with great memories and as you move through your grief, the memories will bring you great comfort. All the best to you.

I had the privilege of knowing Wayne for over two decades. We met at the Savage Library, where I enjoyed discussing with him books he had read, books he was reading and books he wanted to read. We had similar tastes in literature, and shared titles with each other frequently. I looked forward to his visits. As time went on, he switched to audio books on CD, still telling me about what he had listened, what he was listening to currently and what he wanted to listen to next. He apologized for not coming in the library more often, as he had switched to e-books, where he could change the font size. But, I still saw him occasionally whenever he had a technical issue or a question. Wayne was one of my favorite library customers. I shall miss his smile, his quiet conversation and his love of reading. I am so grateful that I was able to help him for over 23 years. I am certain that he is browsing the shelves of the Library in Heaven. May you Rest in Peace Wayne.

Joy: Wayne hired me for my first job after returning from Vietnam and the USMC. While I worked for him less than a year, he taught me well, with disciplines such as accuracy, patience, good humor and delegation, ( like telling me on Thursday to fire our secretary on Friday because he would be out until Monday.)
I still think fondly of Wayne every time I drive through his beloved Red Wing.
