Toby James Dick, age 71 of Burnsville MN, formerly of Rochester MN passed away on Feb 9, 2022.
Toby was born on July 9, 1950 to Omer and Lorraine Dick in St Paul, MN. He graduated from Park of Cottage Grove HS, attended Bemidji State University, and graduated from the University of Minnesota. Toby met his wife Jean while a student at Bemidji State University; they were married in 1971 and moved to Rochester where they raised their family and lived for 35 years.
Toby was always the ultimate competitor. High school football, hockey, and baseball; college bowling and billiards; later as a youth hockey referee and coach; and parent golf fanatic. He continued his love for the game of pool throughout his life and was well known locally and nationally for his expertise and ability to pull off a “Toby roll” when needed most.
Although he continued to play pool for enjoyment after retirement, riding his motorcycle, relaxing at the lake place near Bemidji and spending time with his 3 grandsons was what he enjoyed most. His favorite activity was cheering the boys on in hockey, football and basketball, and he was always a familiar sight and voice in the Moorhead Spuds stands.
Toby was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard; and son, Tony. Forever loved by wife, Jean; daughter, Jenny (Eric) Stenehjem; grandsons, Max, Charlie and Russell; brothers, Ray (MaryJo), and Kenny (Christi); in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins; many relatives and friends.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials suggested to the University of Minnesota Fairview Health System and research.
