Thomas Francis Mahowald, age 52 of New Prague, formerly of Prior Lake, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, December 17th with his faithful furry companions Patch & Tony Bennet at his side.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, August 13, 2021 at 11:00 AM, with a time of gathering from 9:30-10:50 AM, all at St. Michael Catholic Church, 16400 Duluth Avenue SE, Prior Lake. Interment at St. Michael Catholic Cemetery.
Proud parents Francis (Dance) & Mary Ann (Klehr) welcomed Tom into the world on November 14, 1968 in New Prague, MN. He was the youngest of the five children they raised in Prior Lake. Tom graduated from Prior Lake High School in 1987 and followed on to Vocational School for Woodworking. Tom had many mentors in his circle and he learned his crafts well. Tom was an accomplished master craftsman in masonry, he was well respected throughout the Twin Cities and surrounding areas. Tom had his parents strong work ethic along with an engaging personality. He cared deeply and took pride in the quality of the work he was doing. It didn’t matter if he was leading a large project or doing a small repair, he treated all jobs with the same attention to detail and doing it his very best.
While Tom took pride in his work, nothing matched his love for his family and friends. He was always ready to lend a helping hand, share a beer & a laugh with a neighbor, or grace a family gathering with his quick wit. Tom was a story teller. His attention to detail and humor brought experiences to life, even those from decades ago. His stories truly became better and more colorful with age! Tom epitomized the saying; “Work hard, play hard”. Tom was a nature lover – he enjoyed the outdoors and all it had to offer. He took countless fishing and hunting trips with family and friends. His most memorable adventure was Elk Hunting with his father and brothers in Colorado.
Tom was an avid Vikings fan (even when they were losing). Tom had many interests but some of his favorites were his Harley-Davidson, spending time with people he cared about (he knew no stranger), caring for his animals, his garden—especially his tomatoes, finding a really good deal on seafood and sharing his kindness. Despite his fun-loving and mischievous tendencies, Tom lived out his catholic faith. He was kind and generous to everyone. He defined himself by his relationships with other people. Tom was a devoted son, brother, uncle, great uncle and friend to many.
Tom will be deeply missed by his siblings, Jeff (Bonnie) Mahowald, Jody (Steve) Estabrooks, Karen (Linden) Schommer, Kevin (Janene) Mahowald; nieces and nephews, Ashley (Rhett) Fallon, Brandon Schommer, Colton Schommer, Lauren (Ryan Stemig) Mahowald, Max Mahowald, Anna (Deric Hanson) Estabrooks, Noah (Alex Clauson) Estabrooks; great-nephew Hunter Fallon; and many other relatives & friends.
Tom is welcomed into Heaven by his parents, Dance and Mary Ann Mahowald.

Our thoughts and prayers for your family, sorry for your loss, Tommy was a great person and neighbor growing up in the Willows. His humor and smile were infectious. May he rest well.
I am deeply disheartened by the news of Toms passing! I was lucky to call him a friend for 45 of our 52 years. I will miss him and the many qualities he added to the world! Til we meet again Brother!
My deepest sympathies go to Thomas’ family during this very difficult time.. We feel blessed to have gotten to know what an amazing soul Thomas was during the short time since moving in next door and couldn’t have asked for a more amazing, caring, selfless person as our neighbor and friend. Thomas was the person who would give the shirt off his back without question and we enjoyed the time we had with him, the many long talks, and watching how much our kids adored him too! He will be missed dearly by many!
Sincere sympathy to Tom’s family on his passing. You are all in my prayers.
Tom was a great soul, when me and my family moved to New Prague next door to him, he was the first person to go out his way to make us feel like family in the neighborhood. After we met Tom, me and my two little ones would be over at his patio hanging out, catching up, and talking about life. We went to a baseball game, fishing, and just hanging out at the park. I have to say we truly feel like GOD sent us sort of an uncle, lol. It hurt my soul to know that I’m not going to see my buddy come over just to talk. I do feel that he is with the LORD because every time I say LORD I pray you find Thomas, my hairs stand straight in the air, confirming HE has found him and he’s ok. Lastly this man will always be remembered in my family’s hearts and with all the love he shown on this earth, it should remind us to give our family and friends there flowers while their here, because the next second isn’t promised. We love you brother Thomas and until we meet again….sending love and prayers to the family of Thomas Mahowald
