Steven C. Whiting

On November 14, 1965, Steven Craig Whiting was born in Coon Rapids, MN to parents Gary and Shirley (Thompson) Whiting. He grew up in Elk River where he was known as the “fearless” sibling who would ride both his bike and sled down the garage roof. He and his siblings spent a lot of time going to “Handke’s Pit” where they would sled down “Whiting Hill”, dodging trees along the way, sometimes involving broken bones and bruises.

Steve owned and operated a lawn care business as well as selling cars. He was known for his hard work and great customer service. More recently, Steve received his E.M.T. certificate where he had a 4.0 G. P. A., awarding him to be in the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Steve currently worked as an E.M.T. at both the Excel Center and Valley Fair, where he also worked security.

Steve enjoyed watching and playing sports. His favorite teams were the Vikings, Timberwolves, Wild and the Twins. When he played a sport, he always gave a 110% effort.

On October 14, 1988, Steve met Sue Denning, and as Steve put it, “51 weeks later we were married”……October 7, 1989 at Zion Lutheran Church in Anoka. From that marriage came Jamus, Nickolus, Travis, Stephanie and an honorary daughter, Lara.

Known as a free spirit, non-judgmental, and a friend to many, Steve died accidentally in a single car accident at the age of 48.

Steve will deeply missed by his wife, Sue Whiting; children, Jamus of Waverly, Nickolas of Ramsey, Travis of Prior Lake, Stephanie of Green Bay, WI and honorary daughter, Lara; mother, Shirley Whiting; siblings, Rose Hawkins of Long Prairie, Mikki Miller of Arizona, Lee (Lisa) Whiting of Elk River, Bill (Collette) of Milaca, Todd (Melissa) Whiting of Rogers, Jay (Cory) Whiting of Zimmerman.

Steve was preceded in death by his father, Gary Whiting.

Pall bearers for Steve will be Jerome May, Ryan Hawkins, Tom Cole, Justin Narkie, Matt Miller, Justin Cole, Terry Cole, Patrick Hawkins, Joshua Whiting, Levi Cole, A. J. Whiting, Jeremy May, Derek Cole.

The visitation will be on Friday December 13, from 4-8 pm at Ballard-Sunder Funeral Home, 833 South Marschall Road, Shakopee and one hour prior to the service. The Celebration of Life Service will be on Saturday, December 14 at 11 am, at Ballard-Sunder Funeral Home, 833 South Marschall Road, Shakopee. Reverend Josh Johnson will preside. Steve will be laid to rest at Medina Cemetery in Medina, ND on Monday, December 16 at 2:00 pm.
