Shelly will be greatly missed! She was my manager for two years, and since then we would meet up for lunch to catch up. She adored her family, and would always give me updates on what everyone was doing now and tell me all about Nick, Kaitlyn and Josh and how they were doing in sports. You now have an amazing angel watching over you and she will be forever in your hearts. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you!

We are very saddened by the loss of Shelly. She was a beautiful person inside and out. We have many fond memories from our time at UW-LaCrosse and all of the alumni gatherings. I have always enjoyed chatting with Shelly at the annual Saturday afternoon picnic. She will be greatly missed but forever in many, many hearts.

Shelly’s lovely children are a testament to the love she had for her family, and I’m sure was reciprocated back to her. My prayers are with you, continually. Words can not express how sorry I am for the loss of Shelly. I have so many memories growing up with Shelly and her family next door. So many times I would see her car next door while she was in college, or from Minnesota and I would say “Oh, Shelly’s home.” So, so sorry for the family’s loss of Shelly, she was such a kind soul and my family and I will miss her and her family will always be in our prayers.

I’ve known Shelly for about a year since I joined Cargill. What a lovely person. She was very passionate about what she did and caring for the people she interacted with. I’m a better person as a result of having known Shelly and will carry her in my thoughts. Throughout the years we would catch up on our families and what was happening in our lives. I could tell the pride and joy she had when speaking of her family, she just beamed and laughed.

I am so sorry for your loss. Shelly was my mentor when I started Cargill about 20 years ago! She was a great friend and teacher. Throughout the years we had kept in touch and was happy we now worked in the same group so we could see each other more often. Fond memories about Shelly are being shared across Cargill. I keep reading what everyone is sharing about Shelly and could not agree more with their words and feelings.
I feel fortunate to have been able to work with Shelly, even if for a too brief a time. My respect for her was further confirmed and continued to grow each time we met. Shelly really cared about people. Taking time to listen, provide advice and suggestions, then being there for support. She cared about each person, not just in workplace situations, but also wanted to know everyone personally.
Shelly was really great at work with all she accomplished, but her family was most important. I could tell how proud she was of each of her children. The pride showed when she talked about each one.
There was always a bright light when it came to Shelly. Her always on smile and positive attitude was addicting. I’m repeating others words, but she was a kind, compassionate & beautiful person. I wish I had more time with her.

I’ve had the privilege and honor of meeting Shelly at work during a long term assignment in Minneapolis. Such a great professional and woman. We worked together with several projects in the recent years, having always been a pleasure to partner on every assignment. To the family and friends, be aware that Shelly will be missed from across the world. This Brazilian guy here will carry the best memories of her to life. God bless you on this new stage of life. I was also a co-worker and friend of Shellys at Cargill. Her cube was lined with photos of her family, and she updated them regularly. Dance pictures, sports photos, picnics, travels, she loved her family. She always had a calendar with photos “from each month of the prior year of her children, Halloween costumes, Christmas,”. She was a joy to work with. Calm, funny, energetic, enthusiastic and supportive. I will miss you Shelly. My deepest condolences to her entire family.

Although I didn’t know Shelly or her family, I send my deepest sympathies.
We spend time every summer in Mt. Crested Butte and learned of the tragedy on the day we arrived. I feel so much sorrow for your loss each time I look at the mountain.

Although I did not know Shelly or her family they have been in my thoughts and prayers since Thursday, July 14th. My children and I along with a group of friends were hiking Mount Crested Butte the morning of the accident. We were almost to the top when we heard the tragic news. Some of our friends were ahead of us and encountered the tragedy and tried to help the family. Please know that there were many people on the mountain that day holding your family in their thoughts and prayers and grieving for your sudden loss. I met Shelly last month when she gave a presentation to our team here at Cargill. Her presentation started with a “family first” focus, she beamed talking about how proud she was to be a mom and to be blessed with such great kids. My heartfelt prayers go out to both the Dehnert and Kartschoke families… The memories I shared with Shelly during High School will always be treasured ones. Our Spring Break travels to South Padre, Homecoming games, and the many high school shenanigans. If Shelly wasn’t surrounded by fun, she created her own. I’ve known Shelly now for about two years and met her twice in person. Past 3/4 year we (and others) were working very close building the new teams, and spoke with her several times a week. I don’t know you terribly well and did not know your wife but I’m a stick dude alumnus and I was so saddened to hear of Shelly’s passing. My thoughts, prayers, and deepest sympathy are all with you, your children, and the rest of your family.

Our heartfelt condolences to the whole family. Chris and I were teammates and roommates at UW – La Crosse back in the late 80s and early 90s where we majored in “running” and minored in “school”. We were neighbors with Shelly at the Oakland Street Apartments near campus, and I can remember when Chris and Shelly first began dating. They made a great couple and were meant for one another. There were so many fun times and memories at UWL and later as we began our careers in Minneapolis. Chris definitely married up! I knew Shelly from the time she joined Cargill until I left 2 years. She was my co-worker, supervisor, and friend. In reading what others have written here, it is easy to see that many consider her the same way. These messages come not just from our local community, but from individuals around the world that Shelly touched with her presence. I am so sorry for your loss. I was Shelly first manager at Cargill. Shelly always was a great employee but more importantly a great person and friend. When we would run into each other our discussion was hardly about work but rather about family. She spoke of her family with such passion. Two weeks ago she spoke at a team meeting I was in about her current role. She started out the presentation giving some background to the group on herself. Most of it was about her family and how she loved doing activities with all of you. Know that she died really enjoying her time with you on the mountain.
