Samuel Jon Arseneau, age 22 of St. Paul, passed away unexpectedly on August 15, 2022 after a long struggle with addiction.
A visitation will be held on Monday, August 22, 2022 from 10-11AM with a Celebration of Life Service beginning at 11AM at Friendship Church, 12800 Marystown Rd, Shakopee, MN 55379. Pastor Matt LaTourelle will preside.
On November 30, 1999 at Ridges Hospital in Burnsville, parents Todd and Jessica celebrated the birth of their son, Samuel. From a young age, Sam was passionate about his interests whether it was earning his black belt or learning to play guitar. Sam’s love of music was a lifelong passion. He played in the Guitar Orchestra at Southwest High School and always had new, interesting music recommendations for family and friends.
Following his 2018 graduation from Southwest High School, Sam continued his education. Extremely intelligent, Sam earned his bachelor’s in mathematics from Hamline university. His favorite subject was statistics—it helped with keeping up with Twins Baseball! Recently, Sam began his master’s degree at Minnesota State University in Mankato where he looked forward to working as a teaching assistant.
Sam was loyal and dedicated to his family. He was “A great brother” and fellow sports fan with Al, the fishing companion of Todd, the coffee partner to Jess, the always winning champion of chess against Charlie, the best partner of family games to Chris, Alex and Jacob. Sam was grateful to have grown up alongside his cousins and for having a blended family as well. No matter the activity, Sam valued time with his family.
Sam appreciated the friendships he cultivated through video games. He loved making connections with others across the globe! He was interested in learning about other cultures and enjoyed traveling. With his family, Sam visited destinations throughout the United States such as Yellowstone and he traveled abroad to England and Ireland.
Over the years, Sam attended various rehabilitation programs which blessed him with sobriety. Despite the love and support Sam received, he could not shake the weight of addiction and was taken too soon. In lieu of flowers, Sam’s family encourages friends to send memorials to MN Adult & Teen Challenge and Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation.
Samuel is loved and missed by parents, Todd Arseneau & Jessica (Charlie) Hazzard; brothers, Al Arseneau, Chris (Tiffain) Hazzard, Alex (Miranda) Hazzard, and Jacob Hazzard; grandparents, Jerry (Jan) Arseneau and Mark (Tracey) Bligard; many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and his dog, Beta.
Sam is greeted in Heaven by his grandmother, Terri Bligard.

I so enjoyed Sam’s company. I loved how he was so much more knowledgeable than I am myself, yet this humble young man ALWAYS considered my wisdom or experience in life. Sam will be greatly missed. He is loved!
