WEB Rose Grommesch

Rose Grommesch entered eternal life, at the age of 91, on Tuesday, June 26, 2018, at St. Francis Regional Medical Center, Shakopee, MN. She was a longtime resident of Jordan, MN.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, July 5, 2018 at 11AM with a visitation starting at 9:30AM, at St. John the Baptist Catholic, 210 North Broadway, Jordan. Father Neil Bakker will preside, and pallbearers will be Chuck Grommesch, Paul Schwichtenberg, Scott Holthusen, Mark Knudson and Bryan Zuelke. Rose will be laid rest at St. John Calvary Cemetery, Jordan.

On November 28, 1926, Rose Catherine Hennes was born to parents, Peter and Anna (Pieper) Hennes. She was the fifth of seven children to be born and raised on the family farm near Shakopee. Rose attended school in Shakopee through the eighth grade before leaving to help on the farm.

In her teenage years, a young man from Marystown, Robert “Bob” Grommesch, caught Rose’s eye. After courting for a few years, the two exchanged wedding vows on August 18, 1948 at the Church of St. Mark, in Shakopee. Rose and Bob were blessed with 63 years of marriage and two children, Gene and Sharon.

As newlyweds, Rose and Bob rented a farm in Jordan before purchasing a farm in Helena Township where they lived for the next 58 years. Rose and Bob worked side by side—from milking cows to raising chickens and selling the eggs in town. To earn extra income, they both worked nights at Gedney Pickle Factory. In 1974, Rose began a 26-year career with Control Data now Seagate. When they weren’t working, Rose and Bob loved spending time with their family.

Rose dedicated herself to her family—she loved making memories and having a good time. As the family grew, Rose loved including her grandchildren and great-grandchildren in family traditions. They had their sausage making in the winter and an annual pie baking event where Rose specialized in rolling the crusts that Bob made.

Holidays were special as it was an opportunity for family to be together. The grandchildren visited to dye Easter eggs, Halloween she went all out dressing up, and the Fourth of July was spent at the farm watching fireworks and swimming in the pool. In the summertime, Rose started a tradition of taking the grandchildren to Valley Fair. In her later years, Rose loved vacationing with family especially if it meant stopping to fish at the lake!

Rose loved sharing her talents with others and being part of the Jordan community. For over 30 years, she played drums and concertina in the Wild Cats Band with her husband. In March 2012, Rose and Bob moved into the Schule Haus where she became involved in the apartment’s activities. Her schedule was always full—she was either watching the Vikings and Twins or getting together with friends to play bingo, sheepshead, and euchre. Regardless of how busy she was, Rose always made time for her faith. When going to church became difficult, she was grateful for the services held at the Schule Haus.

Rose had a wonderful, loving and fun personality. She never complained and made friends where ever she went. Her home and heart were open to not only her family, but to anyone who came into her life.

She is forever loved and forever missed by her children, Gene (Mary) Grommesch, Sharon (Arlen) Schwichtenberg; grandchildren, Christine (Bryan) Zuelke, Carrie (Scott) Holthusen, Catherine (Mark) Knudson, Chuck Grommesch, Paul (Heather) Schwichtenberg; great-grandchildren, Lacey, Leah, Makayla, Nora, Connor, Ethan, Carson, Joseph, Austin, Cecelia, Adalyn: step-great-grandchildren, Cade, Jaxon, Wesley, Aroura; sisters-in-law, Rosella Hennes and Teresa Grommesch; many relatives and friends.

There to greet Rose in Heaven is her husband, Robert “Bob” Grommesch; great-granddaughter, Alexa Knudson; parents, Peter and Anna Hennes; siblings, Ceil (Nick) Theis, Viola (Leonard) Boekman, Clarence (Marge) Hennes, Ray Hennes, Melvin Hennes and Earl Hennes.
