I am so saddened by Rick’s passing. He was a great counselor and wonderful person. I taught in the same district and he lived nearby. I would see him walking his 10 miles a day in our neighborhood. He always had a friendly word–what a great loss.

Rick was a good friend and fellow educator. As a weekly breakfast buddy for many years I could count on Rick for helpful advice with any woodworking question I may ask him. Others could count on Mr. Sohler too. He provided “life plan” guidance to innumerable students of Prior Lake /Savage Senior High. This kind and generous man will be dearly missed.

Condolence from Dean C. Davis: Retired ISD 719 staff member on July 28th, 2016 10:55 am

My deepest sympathies to Rick’s family and friends. Tucking Rick into our hearts and collective memories will keep his spirit and love close to all of us. Remember often, cry if you must, and smile as his legacy is shared with each other.
Rick was a robust contributer during our weekly “Old Teacher’s Breakfast Group!”This weekly meeting of the minds, with Rick at the table’s head seat, was always a great time to catch up on the news from Prior Lake-Savage as well as other important topical issues of the week. Rick’s keen sense of intellect, humor, razor sharp wit and constant positive attitude kept us all on our toes. Few past or current political antics escaped his “critical analysis and insightful review!” He always reveled when poking fun at the conservative pundits and their loyal followers. We will miss his weekly take, humour, and zingers concerning the 2016 presidential race.
Thank you for your years of service in the military. Your talents shared and time dedicated to the students, staff, and parents in ISD#719 will always be appreciated, valued and respected. Salute to you!

My sympathies to the Sohler family. He was a great asset to the District 719 family. I enjoyed his sense of humor and his approach to students and faculty alike. He was always willing to share his time. He was a gentle man.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Working with Mr. Sohler was a treat. He was a wise and caring person who offered help and assistance to many who needed extra care. He was a friend and shared a bond of Lake Crystal. I can’t help but have a smile every time I think of him. Just a couple of weeks ago were in Lake Crystal and drove past his old home. Rest in peace! You will be missed!

To the Sohler family: I was very saddened to hear the news of Mr. Sohlers passing! He was such a great counselor and patient behind the wheel instructor. Whenever people talk about their first experiences of the first time driving, I relive the time Mr. Sohler took me to where the Machaceks used to live. He asked me which side of the road I would like to drive on, because we aren’t in London. I’m sorry for your loss!!
