WEB Dick Ryan

Richard “Dick” Ryan, a lifelong resident of Prior Lake, passed away at the age of 71 on February 4, 2017. A visitation will be held on Friday, February 17, 2017 from 9:30-11AM with Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 11AM at St. Michael Catholic Church, 16311 Duluth Ave. SE, Prior Lake. Dick will be laid to rest at St. Michael Catholic Cemetery. Father Tom Walker will preside. Dick’s grandson, Logan Knaak, will act as an urnbearer.

Dick was born on December 22, 1945 to parents, Patrick J. and Esther (Monnens) Ryan. From a young age, Dick enjoyed hunting and playing all sports, especially varsity back in high school and softball after graduation. Once playing wasn’t an option, he loved watching the Vikings and Gophers. In his later years, he found joy going on car rides in the countryside to watch the wildlife. After serving in Vietnam, Dick joined the Prior Lake VFW where he was a member for almost 50 years.

Dick was a devout Catholic, praying the rosary three times a day. He was dedicated, especially to his grandchildren who he loved dearly. His sense of humor and love of nature and animals will be remembered by his wife, Sandi; daughter, Niki (Justin) Dahlman and their children, Logan Knaak, Ryan Dahlman; son, Kevin (Shelley) Ryan and their children, Keller and Olivia; brothers, Roger, Marvin and Ronnie Ryan; nephews, Eric and Jeff Ryan; other relatives and friends. There to greet Dick in heaven are his parents and his great friend Culvert, his black lab.

Ballard-Sunder Funeral & Cremation proudly serves and cares for the Ryan family.

Sad to hear of Dicks passing. When I subbed at Hidden Oaks he always made a point to stop and chit chat. The kids loved him at HOMS. Always smiling and sarcastic at the same time

Condolence from Graham Williams on February 12th, 2017 10:08 pm

I got to know Dick when I taught at HOMS. His smile and sense of humor were always on display. I remember him donating many “found” pencils for my classes to use. In addition, Dick was the one who came buy my classroom on 9/11 (my students were at lunch) and said, “You might want to turn on your television.” That was one of the only days I didn’t see him smile. Rest In Peace, Dick.

Sorry to hear about “Rookie”. We made a lot of memories hunting squirrels, playing softball for Green Heights and having beers together. He was a good friend.
