Reggie “R.A.” Rasner, Jr., of Prior Lake (formerly of Rochester), passed away January 8, 2020 at the age of 84. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, January 12, 2020 at 1:00 PM with visitation one-hour prior at the McKenna Crossing chapel (13810 Shepherds Path NW) in Prior Lake. Pastor Karen Treat will preside, and R.A.’s grandson, Aaron Rasner, will act as urn bearer.
On November 4, 1935, Reggie Amos Rasner, Jr. was born to parents, Reggie & Pauline Rasner. Reggie was the second of five children and quickly became known as R.A. He loved growing up in Urbana, IL with his siblings, Farrel, Barb, Larry & Kenny. As a boy, R.A. was always looking for adventure with his older brother, Farrel. They were partners in crime and got into trouble often.
During high school, R.A. played a number of sports. He loved the game of football for the rest of his life and always cheered on the local teams. Following high school, Reggie met the love of his life, Sandy Gates. Their love grew quickly, and they exchanged wedding vows on September 6, 1958. They moved to Omaha, NE and started a family. Their marriage was blessed with one wonderful son, Reggie Amos Rasner III.
Before long, R.A.’s work had their family on the move again. This time they settled in Rochester, MN. They spent over five decades in Rochester. Throughout his life, R.A. had several jobs. He was an over the road trucker and worked for General Electric. He also worked as an engineer at IBM for many years, and he later became a realtor. R.A. and Sandy also owned the local roller skating center in Rochester, Skate Country. R.A. and Sandy taught skating lessons to students that competed.
As a family, the Rasners spent a lot of time on the water. They had a boat called Nite Owl that they kept in Lake City. They made many wonderful memories on their boat. R.A. loved being on the water and fishing. He even taught his grandson Aaron how to fish off the back of Nite Owl. R.A. and Sandy also loved to travel. They were big cruisers. One of their favorite trips was a month-long cruise around South America. They took countless cruises over the years and loved every one of them. In his spare time, R.A. visited a lot of garage sales. He always came home with some kind of “treasure.”
Although R.A. had many hobbies, the most important things in his life were his family and his faith. R.A. and Sandy were active members of Oasis Baptist Church in Rochester for many years. They volunteered any time the church needed help. R.A. also loved spending time with his family. He was a true family man and loved his family deeply.
R.A. will be remembered always for his eclectic spirit and generous heart. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sandy Rasner; son, Reggie (Sandy) Rasner III; grandson, Aaron (Jane) Rasner; siblings, Farrel (Liz) Rasner, Barbara Roach, Larry (Nancy) Rasner, Kenny (Val) Rasner; other loving relatives and friends. R.A. was greeted in Heaven by his parents, Reggie, Sr. & Pauline Rasner; brother-in-law, Walter Roach.

Reggie was a consummate gentleman. He was the best friend anyone could ever ask for. He was generous with his material things, time and love. He will be missed dearly.
Many years ago, when I worked with him at Hexum Realtors BH&G, I was in my early twenties, Reggie told me to put annual pay raises into savings verses spending them

So many memories you left me with, my big brother. I love you and I will always miss you. I treasure the times we spent together this past few years when you gathered with family for the pumpkin carving contest in Arizona, or I was visiting with you in your lovely home in Rochester . I know you are at peace and as hard as it is to let you go , I know will see you again. Say hi to mom and dad. And Walter.
It has been a blessing in my life to know the Rasner family. It is apparent they have a heritage of faith that continues on in even the young of the family. They leave behind a legacy of faith and trust that honors God as well as the family. I am sure the older generation looks forward to joining the family that has gone before them and all will enjoy the joys of heaven that God has provided for His family of which they are a part. May their kind increase, family and friends oriented, hearts of love and faith while having fun!!
Prayers to the Rasner family.
Reggie was so very proud of his family. He shared the love he had for his grandson with us at Century 21 all the time. He could not have been any prouder of Aaron. He was very proud of his son Reggie and daughter-n- law Sandy as well. And his beloved wife, he would do whatever she wanted. He would say if Sandy wants it, I will do it. He was a very devoted husband.
He was a family man, who deeply cared about his family first and foremost.

So appreciated Reggie for many many years. How many ears of corn did we grill together on our in-ground grill,
then peel them as friends came through the food line at the OASIS Summer Outings at our home. He NEVER missed a “corn feed” … he always was a great help … and he always welcomed everyone who came Love and prayers for God’s peace for the family he loved unconditionally.
To the Rasner family,
Our hearts grieve with you in the loss of Reggie’s human companionship in this life as we rejoice in the knowledge of his eternal home.
His ability and comfort in welcoming all who came through the doors of Elim/Oasis were a gift of grace he freely shared.
May memories offer comfort as time provides healing of you heartfelt loss.
