Percy

The morning of Tuesday, March 7, 2017, Percy O. Feldten, age 77, passed away peacefully with his beloved wife, Karen at his side at the St. Gertrude’s Health and Rehabilitation Center, Shakopee, MN. He was a recent resident of Shakopee, formerly of Prior Lake, MN.

A Celebration of Life Service will be on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 11 am, with a time of gathering two hours prior all at Immanuel Lutheran Church on Fish Lake 20200 Fairlawn Avenue, Prior Lake, MN. The service will be led by Pastor Robert Krueger. Percy’s son, Wade will be the urn bearer. A private family interment will be held that afternoon at Pleasant View Memorial Garden, Burnsville, MN.

On the family farm in Spring Lake Township, Percy Otto was born on January 30, 1940 to parents Virgil and Evelyn (Dorn) Feldten. The oldest of four children, he grew up learning the values of hard work, dedication and compassion of farm life, with siblings, Robert, Gerald and Sandra. Around the age of 12, Percy’s family then purchased the Dorn farm (his mother’s parents), where they continued the farming. When time allowed, his uncle taught Percy the craft of fly fishing. This started a lifelong passion of fishing,

First attending the one room school house by Spring Lake, Percy then attended Immanuel Lutheran Fish Lake Parochial School. He completed his education at Jordan High School in 1958. Percy’s first job was at the Jordan Creamery. From 1962-1967, he was a Sargent for the United States Army Reserves. In 1963, Percy started a 42-year career in manufacturing food containers. Through the years, the company seen many name changes, with the recent name of Silgan Containers. But what hasn’t changed is the employee closeness of being a family. He relished every relationship acquired. Retiring in 2005, he continued these relationships and enjoyed the monthly coffee gatherings at Perkins and attending the holiday parties.

Sitting at a table at the J and W Bar, Percy set his eyes on a young gal, Karen Eischens. Eventually, he gained enough courage to ask her out on a date and the rest is history. On October 16, 1965, Percy and Karen declared their love for each other at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, New Prague, MN. They settled their roots first in Savage, where they welcomed three children, Wade, Gina and Guy. In 1973, the family bought a home in Prior Lake. As a family, they enjoyed the annual boating and fishing trips to Gull Lake. Percy and Karen in their later years, loved traveling and staying at Bed and Breakfast’s along the Mississippi River and Door County. For their 30th wedding anniversary, Percy and Karen treasured their trip to Alaska.

In high school, Percy took a strong interest in cars. He always had nice and clean cars! One of Percy’s first cars was a 1959 Oldsmobile convertible. He was so proud of this car and was often called upon to drive dignitaries around in parades. Percy also had other interests of photography, especially of cars, trees and plants. For over 15 years, he also was a member of the Prior Lake Garden Club. Percy had quite a talent of growing roses, hostas and day lilies. He loved too helping at the Minnesota Arboretum.

Percy loved socializing with people. His lawn and cars were always meticulous and immaculate. Percy was a devoted and loving husband and father, who was a great provider for his family.

Left to honor Percy’s life and mourn the death is his wife, Karen; children, Wade Feldten, Gina (Steve) Biel, Guy Feldten; siblings, Bob (Joyce) Feldten, Jerry (Joan) Feldten, Sandy (Lee) Slavicek; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends

There to welcome Percy home in heaven are his parents, Virgil and Evelyn.

To Karen and all of your Family, I’m sorry for your loss. My mother, Margaret Geister, and Percy’s mom, Evelyn were such good friends, for many many years. I got to know you a little bit, Karen, when you worked for Wilma Behm. To Gerald, Bob, and Sandy, I offer my condolences also. May you all experience the Peace and Comfort that only the Lord can offer, at these difficult times in life.

Suddenly, my mind drifts to recall ‘times long gone by’. The mid-1960s. Names like Feldten and Franek. Hentges and Cluever.

Sad is the reason why.

Condolence from Gerald J. Meyer on March 9th, 2017 4:34 pm

Dear Karen and family,
Saddened on the passing of a quite special person, in your dear husband and father Percy.

I had the pleasure of being in the same can manufacture business with him for many years at the old Green Giant Container Operations days at Savage, MN. I may be a bit biased, but the folks like Percy (40+ year employees) from that era were so dependable, energetic, and capable that it is no surprise we developed into one of the top can manufacture institutions in the country. Percy was always there to do his job to the fullest while his pleasant personality always added to his co-workers “day to day”. Proud to have been one of them.

May he rest in peace and with our blessings for the family going forward. Gerald J. Meyer

Condolence from Bruce W Geister on March 22nd, 2017 12:27 pm

Karen and family, I am sorry for your loss. Percy and I were friends when we went to school in District 19 one room school near Spring Lake. I was a bit older than Percy so I believe I was in second grade and Percy was in first grade. I remember going to the farm and sledding with him and his siblings. It was great fun. We lived in the original William Geister homestead at that time. I finished third grade in the one room school and then we moved to Bloomington, where I still live.

It was very sad learning of Percy’s death. He was so brave, with the health issues which had been coming on for several years. May the Lord Christ be with Percy on his journey through Eternity
