Oliver Lorenz Fuchsberger, was only 53 years old, when he left his family’s side unexpectedly from an aneurysm on Friday, May 1, 2015 at the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN.
The family will honor Oliver’s life with a time of gathering on Thursday, May 7 from 5-6 pm, with a Celebration of Life Service at 6 pm, all at Ballard-Sunder Funeral and Cremation 833 South Marschall Road, Shakopee, MN. Following the services, please join the family at the home for a reception.
On August 8, 1961, in Milwaukee, WI, Oliver was born the oldest of three children to parents, Lorenz and Elvie (Elbling) Fuchsberger. Intelligent and athletic were character traits he formed at a young age. Most boys would refuse to go the library…not Oliver. He was extremely excited to explore the wealth of knowledge presented in each book, especially the encyclopedia. Oliver has always had a competitive personality, particularly when it came to sports. Growing up, he relished playing football and soccer, even playing varsity soccer for his high school team. This passion for sports continued to grow as he played pick-up basketball in and after college and continued to grow throughout his life.
When Oliver was able to pull himself away from the gym, he put himself through college working (and studying) as a cameraman for the local horse track. Oliver earned a Degree in Communications from the University of Denver and went on to acquire a paralegal certification. His first job was at Johns Manville. He continued his working in litigation, working at Holland & Hart and then Fredrikson & Byron.
While working at Johns Manville, Oliver met his future wife, Belinda. They made a perfect pair and were married on a beautiful Colorado day in September of 1987. As nice as the wedding was, the adventures they had on their Hawaii honeymoon were ones they would remember forever. Oliver and Belinda welcomed two children, Arianne in 1988 and Derek in 1992.
Oliver was the happiest when he was spending quality time with his family. He enjoyed coaching and watching his children in sports. Always supporting them in their activities, accomplishments, and disappointments. A favorite memory for Derek, as a small child, was when his Dad took him on bow and arrow “deer hunting” adventures. The family could be found berry hunting, hiking, running, walking and Oliver’s favorite past time, riding bike. Arianne will always remember their trip to Austria where they navigated themselves across the country on bikes. Oliver was always on the hunt for the next delicious piece of pie, German baked good or tasty frozen Yogurt. The family enjoyed traveling within the United States, such as South Dakota, Utah, Texas, Florida and Door County to name a few favorite destinations. When Oliver and Belinda came empty nesters, their time together was spent riding bikes, vacationing, and enjoying each other’s company.
A man with a great sense of humor and a love for teasing, Oliver was an amazing storyteller, with a goal of making people laugh. He will be greatly missed. Left to honor Oliver’s life and mourn the death is his beloved wife of 27 years, Belinda; children, Arianne Fuchsberger, Derek Fuchberger; mother Elvie Fuchsberger; brothers, Dennis (Stephanie) Fuchsberger, James (Jenni) Fuchsberger; other loving relatives and devoted friends.
Preceded in death and there to welcome Oliver home is his father, Lorenz.
Just as Oliver touched the lives of so many during his lifetime, upon Oliver’s tragic passing, he changed over 75 lives by being an organ door and giving them a second chance on life.

We send our deepest condolences. I recall working with Oliver at Holland & Hart with great fondness – he was a truly gentle and kind colleague. And Tom has vivid, warm memories of playing basketball with Oliver. We are so sorry for your loss.
My thoughts and prayers are with Oliver’s family. I remember him fondly from his days with Holland & Hart. I learned so much from him and am forever grateful. He was a wonderful person and he will be missed by everyone who was blessed to have known him.
I worked with Oliver for years at Holland & Hart and I, along with everyone else at Holland & Hart, loved him! He worked so hard, was always so willing to help, had the greatest laugh and was so stinking smart! Oh, and his shoe laces were always untied! I’m stunned at the news of his loss and send my heartfelt sympathies to Oliver’s family.
I offer you my heartfelt condolences and prayers.
To the entire family – I had the honor of working with Oliver for over 20 years – he was wonderful to work with, funny, endearing, smart, patient and kind. We spent 8 weeks in the trenches at ATTBB and I learned how patient he really was, but more important I learned how much he loved his family. You all were his world! I am so saddened by this news and the loss, please know that all our love and prayers are with you. He will be missed

As a coworker, this was a sad surprise. I will miss seeing him, and send my condolences to his family.
We need more Oliver Fuchsbergers in the world not fewer. Having worked with Oliver at Fredrikson & Byron over the past seven years, I echo all of the sentiments of his former Holland & Hart colleagues. Oliver was patient, kind, funny, smart, and a team player. And, yes, often his shoe laces were untied! I will misss him. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you.
Derek and family;
I know your Viterbo family is behind you at this difficult time. Please let me know if I can help in any way as I know how hard it is to lose a parent at such a young age. From reading these messages from the people who knew him, I see you have inherited and learned many of your dad’s wonderful traits.
Bobbi Vandenberg, Women’s Basketball Coach
Dear Fuchsberger Family,
My most sincere condolences to a family that was loved so greatly by a wonderful man. Although I worked with Oliver for only a few years, I quickly realized that a generous and authentic person I had met. Oliver had great wit, cherished his family and was a true delight to be around.
May he look over you and keep you safe. All my love, Sarah
Oliver was my boss for 7 years and I could never hope for a better mentor. He was kind, insanely patient, funny, dedicated, and just over all a truly great man. So well liked by all who worked with him. We officed right next door to one another for all of his years at the firm. He was the first person I saw and said hello to every morning and I will miss him dearly. We at Fredrikson & Byron are suffering a great personal and professional loss. Our hearts and sympathies go out to his family and loved ones.
I was so saddened to hear that one of our valued colleagues at Fredrikson passed away at such a young age. Although our paths didn’t often cross here at work, I know how much his work was valued and what a nice person he was. I know he will be missed here at the firm.
My heart goes out to the family at their sudden loss and my hope is that in time your memories can sustain you.
Arianne and Family,
We are holding you close and praying for your peace at this incredibly sad time. May your cherished memories of a truly amazing man and father comfort you in the days to come.
I am so sorry to lean of the passing of Oliver. He was such a friendly and kind person. Always ready with a smile for every one he passed by. He will be greatly missed here at Fredrikson & Byron. May all of your memories of Oliver help you through this very difficult time.
Fuchsberger Family –
I worked closely with Oliver while he was at H&H. When I got the news he was leaving to head North, I was selfishly saddened. After talking to him at least once a week for 6 years, and then not being able to do that anymore…I thought I missed him then. He was a huge influence in furthering my career here at H&H – feeding my curiosity about all that he did with an abundance of patience. He was ever the happy dose of positivity in our yearly emails to catch up on work and family stuff once he arrived in Minnesota. I will miss him dearly and think of him often with that great smile/laugh and sparkling blue eyes! Sending comforting thoughts for you all.
I am so sorry to hear of Oliver’s death. I just wanted to let you know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.
I was so saddened to hear of Oliver’s passing. I work at Fredrikson & Byron and, while I did not work with Oliver, always enjoyed bumping into him in the hallway or elevator. But I also bike to work and the primary place Oliver and I would cross paths was in the bike room, on our way to or from work and chatting about our rides – he was always so warm and friendly. I will miss seeing Oliver in the bike room and he will be missed at F&B. I offer you my most sincere condolences.
Sincerely,
Ron
Oliver was my boss for 7 years at Fredrikson and I can’t express into words how much he has taught me. We both share a love for biking, basketball and baseball and talked about these on a daily basis! I can’t believe our great conversations have come to an end. He could be so funny and self deprecating and made work very enjoyable. Take care my friend and I hope your family can take comfort in how many lives you touched!

Fuchsberger Family –
I had the pleasure of working with Oliver for several years at Holland & Hart. I will always have great memories of him and his great personality and positive attitude. Always one shoe untied and one shirt cuff unbuttoned – that’s what made Oliver, Oliver! We will miss you Fuchsberger!
Seeing Oliver at work was always a bright spot in the day. He made Fredrikson and Byron a better place to work by his warm personality, talent, and leadership. He will be deeply missed.
Mt thoughts and prayers are with Oliver’s family. While working with him at Holland & Hart, we all learned that he was a gentle and charming individual. God bless.
I have many fond memories of Oliver, and I am saddened by his passing. His and Arianne’s Holland & Hart family will always remember Oliver, and you will be in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
I worked with Oliver at Fredrikson & Byron and want to express my deepest sympathy to his family and friends. Oliver’s passing is a tremendous loss to our firm and he will be greatly missed. He was always so friendly and helpful to all. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this most difficult time.
A beautiful life has been lived upon the earth. We are richer for having known such joy in Oliver. I worked on many special projects with Oliver at Fredrikson & Byron and we’d often commute together at the end of the day. He possessed such a warmth and easy smile. I know his homegoing will be as beautiful as his soul. My deepest condolences to all of you.
When Oliver worked with us here in Denver on the 13th floor, my now-husband and him would lock themselves in Oliver’s office trying to figure out how to “rule the world”. My husband would forget to call me letting me know he was running late, so I would frantically try to find him only to find that they were only half way done ruling the world. I would remember going in to Oliver’s office reminding him that Greg needed to be home that night on time for some event so whatever plots they were conspiring too would have to wait. He was such a charming and quiet man in our crazy office. Greg and I would like to send our deepest condolences to the whole family.
We have such wonderful memories of Oliver working in our Cheyenne Holland & Hart office…we loved his caring, warm and can-do attitude. He was such a great trainer and an even more wonderful person. Our hearts, thoughts and prayers go out to you during this very difficult time. Blessings to each of you and may God hold you closely in the years to come.
Sami Falzone
My deepest sympathies. Oliver held a special place in our hearts at H&H’s Cheyenne office. It always cracked me up when he turned on his “teacher voice” during his training sessions. I send my thoughts and prayers to all who love him.
I have such fond memories of the time that Oliver spent in the H&H Cheyenne office. He was so kind, funny and patient and such an important part of our office. He was a very special person and will be missed tremendously.
I’ve worked with Oliver at Fredrikson & Byron for the last 7 years and was sadden to hear this news. He was one of the nicest people I knew and always was laughing and enjoying life. You will be greatly missed Oliver. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.
Belinda and family,
My deepest sympathy to you and your family. Keeping all of you in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time of sorrow.
My thoughts and prayers go out to Oliver’s family during this difficult time, I worked with Oliver at Fredrikson and Bryon, he was such a nice and caring person, so very helpful to everyone with always a smile on his face.
My heartfelt condolences and prayers to Oliver’s family at this time. I worked with Oliver at Holland & Hart and recall how kind and patient he was in all aspects of his work there. He was definitely one of the great ones!
Oliver and I worked together at Holland & Hart and I fondly recall that he could always bring a smile to my face. He was a dedicated man to his work, family and friends. Sharing flights and training sessions with him at various offices was always a joy. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
I met Oliver within just a week of getting hired at Holland & Hart – he had started as a paralegal in Denver just a month or so before I was hired in Boise. I immediately liked him, and looked forward to seeing him at every paralegal meeting. When he moved into practice support, all of us paralegals felt so lucky to have one of our own in the practice support area because he brought that unique perspective to the technical side. He worked tirelessly to help us, no matter what crazy request we brought to him. In Boise we looked so forward to having Oliver come to town for training — and immediately scheduled when we could take him to lunch. (You had to get right after it because when Oliver came to town everyone wanted to have lunch with him so if you weren’t quick his schedule would fill up!) We were all saddened when he left the firm, but so excited for him and the next opportunity for his career. It is obvious how well regarded he was at his new firm by just reading the comments here. Oliver was a warm, caring, smart, funny, gentle person with those beautiful twinkly blue eyes. I will always remember him smiling. You are all in my thoughts and prayers and may you take comfort in knowing how very highly regarded he was by all who knew him. God bless you.
Having been at Holland & Hart for over 28 years, I certainly have fond memories of Oliver and his family. I recall a most recent conversation (several years ago) when we were talking about what university he wanted his daughter to attend (mine graduated in Cheyenne and went to CSU; his graduated in Colorado and he wanted her to go to UW in Wyoming). Oliver was one of the kindest, funniest, gentle, courteous, professional trainers we ever had at H&H; his communication skills and friendly manner made it so easy to learn anything from him and he never made me or anyone else feel like we couldn’t learn or didn’t know what we were doing. It broke my heart to read of this and I am so sorry for his family and will keep you all in my prayers. I know he touched so many people in this world and Heaven now has another angel. God bless.
I played pick up basketball with Oliver (we all called him Ollie) for a number of years at the YMCA in downtown Denver. I often ended up having to guard him (no small task) and I felt I learned something about him by playing against and with him during that time. Oliver was competitive and tough but also extremely fair and always very friendly after the game. The players all had a great deal of respect for him and the fact that we still talk about him these many years later demonstrates that.
My sympathies go out to his family and friends.
Words fail to describe my overwhelming sadness after learning about Oliver. I worked closely with Oliver for more than 20 years. A kind, soft spoken, gentle giant, with great wit and humor, and stories – oh my gosh … I loved his stories! He was always excited about the fast and constant changes in technology. We would talk for hours about this thing called “The Internet.” While it was super exciting … it was also very scary. When the Internet was released to the world, he worked and worried tirelessly in an effort to both share it with his children and protect them from it. Oliver was the epitome of a true gentleman, an extraordinary family man, and a fabulous friend. God Bless, my friend. Rest in Peace.
Oliver’s departure leaves a void in all our hearts. He was one of my favorite people at Holland & Hart. He was a problem solver who took on a job and didn’t rest until he had a solution. He could explain complex technology in terms that even us Neanderthal lawyers could understand. A wonderful teacher and a kind soul. It was a great loss when he left H&H. It turns out it simply provided the opportunity for many others to experience the absolute joy of working with him.
