On November 2, 1933, in Belle Plaine, Minnesota, Wilmar Krohn was born to William & Emma Krohn. He was the seventh child of the eight Krohn children.
Willie was confirmed in 1949 at Fish Lake Lutheran Church. Dad and his family were farmers in St. Patrick, MN. On November 11, 1940 the Armistice Day blizzard hit Minnesota, including the Krohn farm. Willie’s parents sent him and his siblings outside to shovel snow to find their pigs who were buried in the blizzard.
Wilmar married Doris Smith on July 27, 1951. Wilmar & Doris had two sons, Bruce & Douglas. Although Wilmar & Doris parted ways, he later remarried Carol Ahlbrecht on December 28, 1974 in Watertown South Dakota.
Willie adopted Carol’s daughter Nancy. He was happy to have a daughter. Wilmar & Carol loved traveling overseas together.
He was a gregarious guy, who loved getting together with his brothers & sisters at local taverns. Willie was happy when he could have a Colorado Kool Aid in one hand, and an occasional pull tab in the other.
Willie was known to sing a repertoire of songs with his son Bruce’s band the Dakota Ramblers including Tanta Anna and The Auctioneer Song. He could get an audience fired up!
He was a hard-working man, with a full-time job for several years with Continental Machines in Savage, MN, also working part-time selling beer & peanuts at Raceway Park in Shakopee, MN.
Later in life Willie found out he had neuropathy in his legs, forcing him to leave his townhome in Shakopee, then moving into St. Gertrudes assisted living also in Shakopee. He then purchased a power scooter so he could get to meals, check his mail, go to bingo, and getting outside on warm sunny days.
After a fall, Willie fractured his femur in his right leg. He spent over a month in the rehabilitation area at St. Gerts. He fought, but couldn’t recover from his fall. With a failing heart and kidneys Willie lost the fight at 92 years old.
Willie is survived by his children, Bruce (Debbie) Krohn; Doug (Lisa) Krohn, Nancy (Chris) Long; grandchildren, Michelle (Kevin) Matters, Jennifer Krohn, Jonathan Krohn, Robert Owens, Mandy (Ryan Gunn) Krohn and Jackson (Rachel Webster) Long; many great-grandkids; and brother, Raymond. Willie was greeted in Heaven by his wife, Carol Krohn; parents, William & Emma (Mueller) Krohn; and siblings, Viola, Irene, Alvin, Ervin, Howard, Gerhardt, Marcella.
The Krohn family would like to thank the wonderful staff at St. Gertrudes Assisted Living for their compassionate care. Everyone loved Willie!
