Tyler McKinley Uthe, Age 37, passed away unexpectedly on June 3, 2026.

A Celebration of Tyler's Life will take place at 1:00 PM with Visitation from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM on Wednesday, June 10, 2026 at Eagle Brook Church, 4960 Florence Trail, Apple Valley, MN.

Today, we gather to celebrate the life of Tyler, devoted husband, loving father, dedicated son, loyal friend, and respected law enforcement officer. While our hearts are heavy with loss, we are grateful for the years we shared with him and the countless memories he leaves behind.

Tyler was born in Seoul, South Korea, and was adopted as an infant. He was welcomed into a loving family and raised in Linwood, Minnesota, alongside his sister. Growing up, Tyler developed the values that would guide him throughout his life, hard work, loyalty, compassion, and a willingness to help others. Those qualities would later shape both his career and the relationships he built with family, friends, coworkers, and the community he served.

He attended Forest Lake High School before continuing his education at Minnesota Community College, where he earned an Associate's Degree in Law Enforcement. From an early age, Tyler had a desire to serve others and make a difference, a calling that ultimately led him into a career in law enforcement.

In 2013, Tyler began his career with the Minnesota State Patrol. He quickly found his calling in law enforcement and loved everything about the job. He loved the people he worked alongside, the people he met throughout his career, and the opportunities the profession provided. Tyler wasn't someone who was meant to sit behind a desk. He thrived in the action, the unpredictability, and the challenges that each day brought. He enjoyed being out in the community, helping others, and embracing the unique experiences that came with the job, especially working the Minnesota State Fair, which was one of his favorite assignments.

In 2019, Tyler was promoted to Lieutenant, reflecting the trust, leadership, and respect he had earned throughout his career. Even after his promotion, he continued to serve with the same dedication and passion that had always defined him. His efforts were recognized through several awards, including recognition for his work on the Street Racer Detail for his outstanding contribution to law enforcement and the people he served, as well as a Leadership Award and an Exceptional Service Award.

But while Tyler was proud of his career, his greatest pride was his family.

Tyler and I met in high school while working together at Papa Murphy's. What began as a friendship grew into a life together filled with love, laughter, and countless memories. As two people working in law enforcement, finding days off together was not always easy. Because of that, many of our favorite moments centered around our children.

Tyler loved being a dad. Whether it was shuttling the kids to practices and games, cheering them on from the sidelines, camping together, or taking family vacations, he found joy in watching them grow. Some of our favorite adventures included trips to Tennessee, visits to Dollywood where we could ride roller coasters together, camping trips, and family cruises. No matter where we went or what we were doing, what mattered most to Tyler was being together as a family.

He was always there for his children whenever they needed him. Whether it was helping with a problem, offering encouragement, or simply being present, his kids knew they could always count on Dad. Tyler was an incredible girl dad who loved his daughter fiercely and took great pride in watching her grow into the beautiful young lady she is becoming. He also cherished the time he spent with Zach, especially playing video games together. Whether they were teaming up in a game, talking about their latest interests, or heading out for a Pokémon raid, those moments meant the world to him. No matter how busy life became, Tyler always made time for his kids, and some of his happiest moments were the ones spent simply laughing, playing, and making memories with them.

Tyler was a loving father, husband, and son. He was the kind of person everyone enjoyed being around. He had a way of making people feel welcome and valued. He was dependable, genuine, and always willing to lend a hand. If you needed help, Tyler was there. If you needed advice, Tyler would listen. If you needed a friend, Tyler would show up.

Outside of work and family, Tyler enjoyed collecting challenge coins and pursuing his passion for laser engraving. He found satisfaction in creating things, sharing his work with others, and connecting with people through his hobbies.

What we will remember most about Tyler is not the awards he earned or the title he held. We will remember his smile, his kindness, his sense of humor, and the way he showed up for the people he loved. We will remember the husband who loved his wife, the father who adored his children, the son and brother who cared deeply for his family, and the friend who could always be counted on.

Tyler's life was one of service, to his family, his friends, his community, and his profession. He made a difference in the lives of countless people, many of whom he may never have realized he touched.

Tyler's journey began halfway around the world in Seoul, South Korea, but his life story was written here in Minnesota, where he built a career, raised a family, formed lifelong friendships, and touched the lives of so many people.

Tyler is survived by his wife, Ashley; his beloved children, Zachary Tyler, and Taylor Marie; his parents, Jeff and Donna Uthe; his sister, Lindsay (Michael) Nicklason; his nephew, Joseph Nicklason; his sister-in-law, Alexandra (Brandon) Vogel; his parents-in-law, James and Lisa Watson; his niece and nephew, Lucas and Sadie Vogel; and his cat, Lilo.

Though we wish we had more time with him, we are thankful for every moment we were given. His legacy lives on through the love he shared, the values he demonstrated, and the memories that will remain in our hearts forever.

We love you, Tyler. We miss you deeply. And we will carry your memory with us always.
