Sandra Lee Nelson, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2026, with her family by her side.
She was born on February 14, 1946, in Minneapolis and was an only child. In 1965, she married Steve Nelson, and together they brought four beautiful children into this world.
Sandy was truly the life of the party and loved to entertain. She found great joy in hosting gatherings for family and friends, and with her natural gift of conversation, she could make a friend out of anyone she met.
She had a deep love for gardening and decorating, with a remarkable ability to make even the simplest things beautiful — she could turn a cardboard box into something special. Sandy was artistic and creative, expressing herself through sketches, drawings, and paintings. Her interests were many and included ceramics, crocheting, sewing, cooking, and baking.
An avid animal lover, Sandy raised and cared for many animals throughout her life. She cherished country living and embraced all it had to offer. A true people person, she worked in a variety of roles that reflected her personality, including restaurants, dinner theater, the gardening department at Walmart, and as a receptionist at Grossman Chevrolet.
Sandy was adventurous and loved horseback riding, fishing, four-wheeling, snowmobiling, and camping. She was also a wonderful dancer who brought energy and joy wherever she went.
She is preceded in death by her father, Lee; her mother, Peggy; her stepfather, Ed; and her grandmother, Edith.
Sandy is survived by her children: Kimberly; Jeff (Kirsten); Michael (Amy); and Chad (Christy); her grandchildren: Corey, Kendall, Keira, Dayton, Davis, and Jett; and her great-granddaughter, Nyla.
A Celebration of Life will be held on July 12, 2026, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the home of Chad & Christy Nelson, located at 2930 Cougar Path NW, Prior Lake, Minnesota. Family and friends are welcome to attend. Condolences may also be sent to this address.
